Hello :)

Yep, toei tc-hv25lmk

The buzz is loud, which suggests said transformer is perhaps shagged, or maybe something is shagged that feeds it I guess.

In the meantime I've pulled the power supply and am going to re-cap it.

UPDATE

I've finally found someone who works on these TOEI chassis, has agreed to work on it, and looks well equipped to do so :awe: 8-)

Will update relevant who fixes what threads if this turns out A-OK, will probably be a couple of month turn around though.

Well the turn around was slow, but I have been sent a video of the chassis working, I asked what was done, they said the horizontal section was bad, new HOT, few other components and ran it for hours, will confirm when it gets back to jolly old England and I find time to fit it.

I know this thread is being watched by someone else with a similar issue, looks like we could be onto a winner...

Re: Taito Canary NOT playing blind, but still issues

Post by matt5cott »

Well over 3 years later and here we are, unfortunately still not working which is frustrating when I was sent a video of it working (defo the same one in vid) But at least there's life...

I finally get round to putting this all back together, I double check everything, fire the switch, and it's another frigging high pitched noise (at least not the previous buzz as before I guess) With the game playing sounds at me, great :problem:

Anyway the sound seemed to be localised (always hard to tell with a high pitched shriek) Around the flyback, with @cools advice on another thread to give things tap I gave the metal shroud near it (pictured below) A knock and much to my amazement the shriek stopped and I could hear it fire up :-o

Image

Unfortunately the image was a mess rolling all over the shop, but the colours all seem to be correct and it looks bright and clear,

Image

I tried to dial it in blind (chassis was facing rear in a temporary position) But it doesn't seem to want to sync, I gave it another tap and it started to infrequently just show a single white line as below, vertical collapse I believe,

Image

It was getting late and I've had to power down and stick it all away again for a bit but hopefully a plan of action can be drawn up, hopefully it's just something loose!

Have you checked the connection on the mate n lock connector going to the chassis?

matt what boards are you using for testing ? is there a remote board and is it connected up the right way around ? (this is in relation to the scrambled image )

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

I did, but that was a while ago now when I was fault finding and I've removed the power from the mate n lock to run it independently from a PSU when testing, so defo need to check all the wiring again just to be doubly sure.

The TOEI is a rats nests with some odd daughter boards but it seems set up right, but will double check this again definitely.

Game board wise, those I've tried are a known working irken labs JAMMA expander, Mr Driller G, and Fantasia.

Cheers guys for the help. I'm just hoping this is a sync cabling issue but I'm putting together a list of things to do and I'll take another crack at it end of February when I get another chance to pull machines out :)

Re: Taito Canary funky sync

Post by matt5cott »

Close, but just won't quite sync, the H.FREQ / H.HOLD / V.HOLD amongst others have been tweaked but alas it doesn't appear to be happening and the image is rolling all over the shop, BUT hey, it's not playing blind!

Anyway, it looks like a daughter board that plugs into the chassis is the source of A fault, it's tapping that which is causing all sorts, RGB to drop, sync to drop, so looks like a prime culprit, will pull and investigate/solder as needed when I can.

(I also re-wired from chassis to mate and lock and continuity tested the cabling, it didn't resolve anything but looks a lot neater at least)

The daughter board is a M7487K, it has a 3 pin input for GND/VER/HOR, it has pretty shoddy looking repairs on it and the header itself has seen better days, seemed to continuity test OK though.

Anyway I tidied up a few solder joints and plugged it back in, went to squealing again with no picture, tapped the board and it shut up and went back to the rolling picture, so it looks like this board is very likely the culprit, the soldering on it is carnage, many pads lifted, looks dire.

This daughter board then plugs into the chassis via a thin 18 pin connector, it could also be an issue at either end with that.

With that said I Just spotted 2 crap solder joints on the right hand side that I'll touch in tomorrow, look OK in real life, photo shows/suggests they're naff, might just be tired eyes.

It's working! Was working a few days ago then glitched again, but I've had it soak testing for hours, image needs work to fill the screen spot on but got it to a decent enough playing state, need to get it all installed and buttoned up properly before going nuts on that anyway.

Long story short sync line had 2 faults due to pads being loose and one solder job was loose, must have been booted in shipping to and from the states!

Thanks everyone for your help 8-)
