Mortal 1 Kombat
Stupid name, last few games in the series were garbage, and the trailer has no gameplay footage, so don't bother watching.

New look, but so far nothing has impressed me much. And I actually wanted to be impressed and press the pre-order button.

This video explains the mechanics. The ones that have been revealed seen so far.
I'm now keeping an eye out for a premium version deal on Steam.

In-depth look at the frame rates using the stress test demo, and most importantly the kouch.

Better name usage than Xbox One tbh
If this has hype music like the KI remake did I might be down for it

Re: Mortal 1 Kombat
The helping character mechanic is forced. It should have been an optional mode of play instead of a full feature of the main game. The characters look uninspiring. Liu Kang looks more like an indian instead of chinese and Sub Zero's main look seems to be a rejected idea from the previous games. The backgrounds look nice though

Re: Mortal 1 Kombat
All these fighting games are cash grabs at this point, basically using the same 10 year old engines, selling DLC characters and $100+ dollar LE sets to normie Evo players. I think these graphics look unreal, that's the nicest thing I can say about these games they usually have a great presentation, but I still prefer to play MKII or UMK3 over anything after. The helper characters is a little silly to me why copy a Capcom mechanic from the '90s. Liu does look off to me like an filipino underwear model or something

I'm putting all my eggs into this basket because I'm tired of trying to find people to play older games with.
Also, my all time favourite MK, N64 Trilogy, is just as Marvel as this is. So there's a distinct reason why this is so appealing to me.

Re: Mortal 1 Kombat
Street Fighter seems like the only game that can sustain hype levels anymore. Everytime a new Tekken, MK, KOF etc. comes out it dies so fast. I think it's because people stream SF regularly and not really the other games except during week 1. LTG needs to be saying GTAB playing your game on stream for you to be a success now. Smash is except cuz they got Nintendo clout.

Re: Mortal 1 Kombat
I've been to FGC meets for a few years now. Long enough to retire this year, actually. Because I play VF which is niche compared to...
Tekken 7 is still alive and healthy. People meet up to play it every week, and tournament attendance numbers high. Here and elsewhere. Most people who main Tekken don't play other fighting games, so maybe someone who is mainly into SF won't see much Tekken action going on.
MK is a bit different because the scene is kurrently split between MK11 and MKX. It is also a game where the scene is rather happy to play online, thanks to rollback netcode. All I can say is that if MKX (which came out in 2015) online tournaments are still a thing in 2023, MK isn't dead. MK11 has also outsold pretty much every other fighting game.
KOF... it's still a thing. For some. I'm sure a lot of people jumped into the SF6 train and will never touch the latest KOF again, but the real KOF fans will never abandon it. It's definitely the least popular game series you mentioned, though.
You didn't mention GG, but simply put Strive is huge. It's almost as popular as Tekken. Infact, the popularity of Tekken 7 and Strive put together is rather depressing. Add the SF6 hype to that, and I have no other option but to tap out. Your comment made it seem like no-one plays anything but SF, but I've wittnessed T7 and Strive alone suffocate everything else, back when SFV had already waned in popularity.
If you look at how many people will participate in the SF6 tournament at Evo (around 10 000) when the game is only two months old, don't you think we've already reached the peak buzz that title will ever get? I'm saying that it's SF that slowly dies out, not the other series.

Re: Mortal 1 Kombat
It's true Tekken is huge, just outside my country, I don't know anyone who even talks about Tekken here (USA), it's been a longtime since I had friends who even played probably Tekken 3 days. I guess I am biased because all I see are US fight streamers and Evo and it's always nothing but Street Fighter focused or Smash memeing. Poor Virtua Fighter I used to get sweaty in VF4 a lot and no one ever wanted to play or if they did they were just a lamb
