Positively surprised by Sigh. Probably the best vocals they've ever had too.

Well out of nowhere Sleep Token release two singles in consecutive days, Chokehold and The Summoning. An album is expected to release later this year.

Chokehold starts off with this sound like an overloaded power transformer, that somehow sounds really great and then devlops into an amazingly crafted song, with elements of heavy but mostly melodic with some really nice vocals.

The Summoning is a mad progish track with some of the heaviest stuff in parts that Sleep Token have done (their only out an out heavy track is 'Gods' from a few years back), combined is amazing vocals and even shock horrror a smooth guitar kinda solo which is a shock.

The real shock though is later, after a synth chill out interlude that starts to build, we get the most bizarre twist at the end, that has to be heard to be believed (and it somehow works and is amazing in its own right).

Which is my favourite track out of the two? I can't decide, a lot of people are going for Summoning, because it's so full-on and has a shock value, but equally Chokehold can't be overlooked as it is such a beautifully crafted song.

The videos have a strange characters that look out of a game or something and the camera rotates around them, treat the videos as a visualiser more than anything, but there is a chance that the creations may be relevant when more songs are released.

Anyway, give these guys a try, in my opinion they are nowhere as big as you would think they would be, they seemingly combine mellow, pop metal and everything else so you would think they would have a lot of a appeal. However, it may be exactly because of that, that for example not all metal fans love them (not heavy enough), or those that prefer the poppier side may not like the heavy or experimental bits. They are classed as alt metal, I guess that's about as good as you could label them, but its difficult to fit them into a genre. Either way, the lead singer has a ridiculously good voice (although some may be put off by the singing style). The drummer too is mad good, the videos showcasing him drumming on his own are worth a watch if you're into that.

Stumbled across this earlier. Haven't bought music in a long time, couldn't get to the checkout fast enough. Every track is killer. I'm not qualified to comment on genre, I just know I sodding love this album.

Inspired by Erasure above. I honestly reckon this is as good as a pop song gets…

I will see your Erasure and meet it with 'My Way by Sparks'.

I went to the the Sparks Brothers film a couple of years ago, didn't know them at all beyond 'This Town' isn't big enough and have now since seen them live and can't get enough

Both in their 70s now and still making music, this just came out - fantastic video with Cate Blanchett.
