Re: Varnish connoisseurs

They've arrived. The difference is noticeable as soon as you put the first one in, I would describe it as a 'softening' feeling on my hearing.
I wasn't convinced by the marketing, they just look snake oil-y, but they definitely do something. Will report more when I've given them a proper test whether it's good or bad.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs
Depending on where I'm working I'll occasionally wear earplugs or headphones (off) simply to cut out the surrounding noise, be interesting to see what you think. Generally I don't want to hear *anything*Rossyra wrote: August 18th, 2020, 9:48 amThey've arrived. Re: Varnish connoisseurs
So that's about a day and a half I've had them in.
I've tried all sorts of different music, from a few sources, the 3 different hifi setups I have plus my AKG-550s, and then just generally wearing them around the house.
I'd love to be able to say it's all a load of ****, but I don't think it is. I'm not sure they fit perfectly in my ear canal per the diagram in the manual, but they still do what they are supposed to. 'Noise' really is dampened, it takes the harshness off anything that was uncomfortable before.
For example, listening at high volume is much more tolerable for me than it is without the plugs - like it used be for me 10 or 15 years ago - in some cases I can pick out detail I would lose from having the volume too low to hear. I think they would be perfect for the cinema, where I always think the volume is way too high.
It's not a blanket dampening of all the sound coming into your ears, some things sound exactly the same, and it doesn't remove distortion that's there deliberately. 'Calmer' is a pretty accurate description.

How does it compare to the usual yellow rubbery foam plugs I use when I trim the hedges?Rossyra wrote: August 19th, 2020, 4:59 pm So that's about a day and a half I've had them in.

I'm currently listening to new old kit: An Ayre QB-9 192 DAC. Can't hear a difference to my Airport Express.
But it sure looks proper high end.
