Yep. Essential when you buy used records IMO. Keeps your stylus in good shape too. I have a Clearaudio Smartmatrix Pro. The Project one is good value.thegreathopper wrote: April 26th, 2019, 6:53 pm You guys washing your records? I recently bought a Klaudio record cleaner (for work) and was quite shocked in a before and after listening session.
Some of the LP’s were old and quite worn, Pink Floyd and Bowie sounded great after a good wash.

Don't think it's G plan. Not sure what make it is. Ironically for this thread the varnish on it is pretty **** too

Don’t fancy Devialet in the slightest. Certainly not with a turntable.kernow wrote: April 29th, 2019, 10:40 pm Ever looked at a devialet pang? Pretty interesting if you want to downsize.

A couple of friends just bought a Qutest, I am very pleased with my Hugo TT if you don’t like it Chord stuff keeps its value.kernow wrote: April 29th, 2019, 10:40 pm Ever looked at a devialet pang? Pretty interesting if you want to downsize.
Can't find a DAC I want
Just picked up a Blusound 2i streamer to listen to some hires, sounds great but better than a Sonos connect not sure

It uses AD conversion though doesn't it?kernow wrote: April 29th, 2019, 11:16 pm I like how configurable it is for a one box solution. The phono stage is actually really good.
Qutest and TT are very good. If you don't need the headphone amp, Qutest has the advantage of some HF rolloff filters if they appeal.
The RME ADI-2 DAC is supposed to be excellent value and has enough settings to make it sound however you like. Won't "match" your kit though

I fell for the high-res hype at first. It can sound great but it's all down to the mastering. It's the classical and audiophile stuff that makes the most of it.thegreathopper wrote: April 30th, 2019, 8:18 am Just picked up a Blusound 2i streamer to listen to some hires, sounds great but better than a Sonos connect not sure![]()

I think you are right Joe, the Blusound was nearly £200 off so worth a try, will probably sell it and stick with the Sonos.
The RME DAC I had on home trial for a few weeks, it does do a lot and lots of DSP, EQ etc. sounded great and may try again in the future.

Wouldn't the foam get squashed and uneven over time? A big wooden chopping board with some sort of rubber (sorbothane?) feet might be better.
Like a budget version of this beauty: http://www.isoacoustics.com/products/de ... ng-island/
Nice. Never 'eard of it but the reviews look good.
I have some money put aside for either a new Vewlix or a DAC. I think I'd get more enjoyment out of a DAC right now. Would like to try a second hand PS Audio Directstream.

Re: Varnish connoisseurs

I'll read up on it. I'd need to know where it stands on the "OMG transparency!" to "Put your feet up grandad" scale.kernow wrote: July 14th, 2019, 3:25 pm I was looking at the ps audio also, the directstream junior was around used but I went for this instead. Designed by a group of satellite and gps engineers who say that doing audio decoding is simple in comparison.
The Directstream is FPGA based and has had about 8 updates since its release to improve sound quality, which I think is pretty cool. It supposedly slightly on the grandad side of the scale which my system needs for my non-audiophile music collection. Having said that, I bought a used Luxman DA-06 which was very kind to some music but lacked the dynamics and energy of my Hugo TT, which won out overall. Chord are hard to beat for electronic music in particular.

I like his reviews and that he listens to music he likes, I particularly the one about audiophiles which upset a few on the pink fish.
