The shortest explanation would be that if you don't play fighting games on current consoles and rely on Steam sales or emulated/dumped versions you are a "poverty gamer."

Yes, this way of thinking completely disregards people who play on real arcade hardware. But I'm fairly sure the term was coined by people born too late to even understand what arcade gaming really is about. I like to call them vapourpeople.

Why does using an old CRT-TV make you a poverty gamer...some crt's cost more than some new games now.

Anyone that uses this term probably doesn't know anything about games and is probably only interested in the latest thing.

Yup, yup. Yup. It's a term used by the "FGC*" which to me doesn't really feel anything like a community, especially because they use terms like that.

To understand why a term such as that can even exist there is basically just one reason. E-sports, which is essentially a marketing ploy to tell idiots what they should be playing. I can understand if someone who has the skill and determination to compete in the latest games and succeed** in them wants to spend their time playing what the developers and publishers are telling them to play. But, if you're just someone who wants to have fun or has a passion for a certain genre then you should decide for yourself what you want to play. It's pretty ridiculous to even try to justify calling something "poverty gaming" when 99% of the people interested in the entire genre are not making any money out of it.

"Hey, buy our new games or we'll call you poor!"

Oldest sales trick in the book.

Sounds like FGC was created by pen pushing business men that prey on the weak minded.

Some CRT's cost more than a PS4, a HDTV and the latest fighting games combined :problem:

I see

So your in poverty because you buy expensive things like crt's and thats what makes you a poverty gamer according to FGC and some simple minded users.

It sounds like jealousy to me...
You can Play any game on any emu or online server that you want too.
But don't judge people because they spend a **** load on games and the hardware that they where made for.

Thats what i would say to anyone that uses the term Poverty gamer 8-)

Most likely only 1% of all the CRTs in the world are "expensive".

I'm sure that only 1% of the people who are serious when they use the term poverty gaming know anything outside of current gen console crap prices.

Just yesterday I built a versus setup with two 21" CRTs that let you pass the signal forward. I put up an open invitation for anyone to come and try them out to play SFII'CE, CVS2, 3rd Strike, etc on a PS2 and no one showed up. One guy came in later to play a collectible card game and when he saw the monitors he just had this smug smile on his face and asked "don't those belong to a dumpster?" and after a short explanation of having no lag and supporting 240p on top of being able to link them, he had another question; "but why not use normal TVs?"

I think we are also in a certain 1% bunch.

I've got the Han Solo, but it's got the fleshlight mod and I can't get Rolf Harris's signature off the **** thing. Maybe we can still strike a deal?
