Seems like the glass is working as an anti glare coating, is it possible to completely remove the glass to get a 100% clear glossy screen?

So...the Vewlix glass is suppose to be somewhat blurry/cloudy? When I cleaned mine, I was wondering why it wouldn't clean to a crystal clear and just figured that was how it was intended -- like a really heavy anti-glare coating. When you're playing on the cabinet, the blurry screen does looks good (like an anti-glare) so I figured that's how it is suppose to be.

Yeah, please don't ;)

Btw, easiest way to spot an original Vewlix. China one is glossy.

BTW, have you cleaned out a Vewlix L monitor yet? I'm a little nervous to go it alone. :)

Well I'm all about keeping a Vewlix original for the authentic experience

The thing is, while the screen panel is great, the anti-glare coating method used at the time wasn't the best, it definitely alters the picture quality in order to diffuse the reflections, modern high end TVs don't use this "clouding" method anymore. You can tell as you move the AG coat further away from the screen the blurrier it gets, you have to realize in normal play the blur and tint is still there, that's great for the authenticity appeal, I like it on KoFXIII, but some 3D games just look way better without the AG coat clouding. As a general rule you get the most accurate image to the source when there's nothing in between the monitor panel and your eyes. Take a look at the Mario Kart GP DX machine for reference, yes you'll see your own reflection when the screen is blank due to the glossy glass, but when the game is running you see what you're meant to see without any AG coat altering the image, and it's so worth it. There are many other high end arcade machines without AG coating meant to run in a low light environment that gives you the best picture quality possible for what the panels can offer.

Most monitors with AG coat has the AG glued to the screen permanently, removing it is an irreversible change and it's a pretty common mod to improve PQ for PC gaming. What's really interesting to me here is that Vewlix seems to be designed to have the AG coat a completely separable part from the screen panel itself. That's an amazing find. I only comment on this since it appears you can easily switch in/out the AG coat, as I wouldn't do any permanent change like that to a real arcade.

Ive seen this mentioned before. Not always though. Mine doesn't have a glossy screen and also has a Vewlix Wei-Ya power supply.

very nice cab !

btw. i have started to clean my Vewlix AMI/L Screen today, not realy sure if i should post a guide. it is alot of work, you will basicly have to disassemble the complete Screen to reach the backlight matt and it could end in tears very fast.

cleaning the glass and Matrix front can be done very easy, but i would not go deeper unless you have real Screen Problems.

Hi Jan - I think you have confirmed my suspicions. I have learned to live with minor "brown waves" on the screen. i can ONLY see them on a solid bright white background. I'm now thinking that if anything happens to my screen, I will replace it with a conventional 32" professional display rather than another stock screen.

Thank you Jan.

Please do post another guide for the AMI/L if you can. Id like to check it out. Also, Im not sure if you've updated your other thread but I want to see every Vewlix you have and what games are currently in them! :)

thats is either dirt on the backlight map or the backlight itself. i have the same problem with one of my AMIs. i`m sure it is fixable, but i have to wait till i have some quiet time to check that in detail.

right now i`m checking if i can find a plug&play replacement matrix and backlight, these are samsung after all, so spares are not that hard to find.
Also, Im not sure if you've updated your other thread but I want to see every Vewlix you have and what games are currently in them!

will do, but right now i can hardly move in the garage/gameroom, everything is packed :problem:

Jan - I thought I saw in another thread that you bought a Samsung 32" display as a direct replacement for the 32" monitor in Vewlix. Am I dreaming?

This may only be a replacement for mine. But this is just the panel so it's much cheaper than the whole thing.

This guy is actually selling 2 Vewlix L lcds. He bought the newer upgrade model lcds that Taito had for a bit in stock:

Yeah, I was thinking of buying 1 of his panels as a spare, but could probably get a lighter, brighter 1080p replacement panel for less.

the once Taito sold were horribly overpriced and rather low-tech. Complet Screen Conversion is an Option, but from what i can tell, it could turn out to be alot of work if you want it to be done properly. I`m aiming to place the new Screen into the Mounting Frame (not only the front Frame) of the old Screen and Keep as much original as possible.

i will definitly get started at some point, the replacement Screen is allready here, but i don`t have the time at the moment :palm:

Id like to see pics when you do this. I would think the remote board for the monitor controls may be hard to use?
