Re: Sega Swing restoration
Had a bit of fun playing with the cab today, but I was just delaying the inevitable. The cabinet needs stripping, cleaning, prepping and painting. I removed the monitor first....

So dirty!
There are 6 bolts that separate the top from the metal base. Here are the 2 pieces:

I'll clean and paint them in turn.
Hopefully I'll have the missing panel cut soon, and the header art back from the printers.

Re: Sega Swing restoration
I got the header window sticker back from the printer today.
I trimmed it and stuck it on. Since the last pic of the header (in the first post i think) i pulled the white pinstripe off and replaced it with silver... I think it looks much better now. Here's a picture of it fully put together:

It looks nice (it's a reflection of my light fitting that makes it look a bit odd).
Just waiting on a couple of cans of primer to come through the post and I can get onto the last leg of the restore!

Re: Sega Swing restoration
Thanks guys,
Last few days managed to straighten, prep and paint a few of the metal parts:

... Still quite a few parts to paint, but they are coming up like new, so i'm very happy.
I got all the coin mech / cradle bits together and cleaned up (ready for the door above). I also set the mech to take the fantastic Sega tokens that Rancor was selling
. I had to take the magnet out of the AD81P, as that check was stopping the tokens passing - but they get accepted just fine after that:

Re: Sega Swing restoration
Great work,
One thing is would say is you can probably use different screws for the coin mech, so it is flush and not dangerous.

Re: Sega Swing restoration
I see that you used AMP connectors, I thought all Sega cabs previous to the Astro used Mate-n-lok's
.

Re: Sega Swing restoration
Thanks guys.
Coach bolts are great, but these holes are threaded so I wouldn't be able to screw them in + out! Nice low-profile screws would be good replacement for the bulky ones I got now though.
Swing def. uses AMPs, and is before the Astros, but not sure if it's the first time Sega used them. It might be
.
Update on the restore.... I managed to draw, cut and build the reproduction speaker mounts today. Very happy with these. Just like the originals and speakers mounted to wood sound great!

You've made a very neat job of those speaker mounts, well done.
