Nice! It's pretty awesome to sit so close to a huge 480p image isn't it? I don't think my plasma can do TATE though. Damn.

Recently dug out my old CRT to use with my supergun and older consoles.

Still tweaking it, but it looks good.

My setup is still very much "under construction" but I found this old photo on my harddrive and thought I'd share. This setup is from 2008. All console and emulation based, nothing impressive but I didn't know any better back then.

My setup at home is still a work in progress, but here's what I have over at the kingdom of cat hair AKA at the mother-in-law's place:

Image

At first the idea was to use the spare Windows 7 tablet there as a little desktop setup in case the desktop PC in the other room was occupied, but then I figured I could also bring my spare little 9" CRT there with me. I settled for a cheap little dongle that magically turns HDMI into composite, because I knew from experience that composite looks just fine on this little Grundig. I didn't care about having 480i only as this CRT doesn't show scanlines anyway and at first I was only planning on watching old anime shows on it.

Image

That's the little dongle. Cost about 12USD shipped on ebay, and it only needs USB to power it for lower resolutions. I'm currently using the tiny mono speaker from the tablet, but I will route the audio to the CRT later.

Image

Since buying a real MSX2 costs a ridiculous sum of money I figured that this time emulating is not an atrocity. After testing around a bit I settled for 800x600 as that looks nice enough and it is centered on the CRT. The great little microswitched joystick Rossy-boi gave to me a couple of years ago is perfect for this cause. Thanks again, Ross. :whoopsie:

Image

Test subject who has no idea what Out Run is gave it a go and liked it. I was pretty satisfied with the results as well.

Image

An artsy close up of TheRedKnob. :fastlove:

I only paid 12USD for the dongle and 20 Euros for the CRT about three years ago. Everything else was donated to me. I don't think the people who gave stuff to me knew how happy I'd end up with this little setup. :)

Some bonus full size close ups from three Konami MSX2 games:

Also, the tiny CRT setup some posts above is gone. The little thing started turning itself off randomly..
