thanks for the review Pang, shame about the pono, I know this was the highdef player for the "everyman" priced accordingly but as a first foray into highdef music for some the unforgiving, transparent sound may put them off..

Let's hope their software and download store become the winning formula for the format.
For gods sake, its a carton box - not the holy grail!

Thinking of taking advantage of the exchange rate and buying myself some Stax Earspeakers for Chrimbo. They come in at almost half the UK dealer price if you know where to shop. The risk is no warranty and you need a stepdown for the energizer

Everyone needs to own a pair of electrostatics at least once, I had the Quad esl 57's for a few years, they were wonderful speakers 8-)

Ok my fault - It's high voltage but low current so it's only a bit of a deathtrap. ;)

Right, looking to get some overear headphones and was looking to spend around £50-60 but have ended up really wanting the AKG K550's as they are now £99 from £250 and have great reviews.

http://www.richersounds.com/product/all ... g-k550-blk

I need them mainly for watching films, playing games, and listineng to music through Spotify on my iPad/iPhone (all at home - will not be used in publis/on the move etc).

Will be connected up to my Yamaha AV reciever so need your thoughts on this?

Was looking at the Grado range but the open-ness puts me off as the whole point is to be quiter when others are in the room etc.

Can these be beat at that sort of price (really, thats my max on the budget) and are they worth the extra over somthing half the price?

Let me know what you think you little beauties.

PS. I currently us the iPhone headphones and some £15 Sony on ear headphones so my standards are low.

My thought are they are great and will blow your balls clean off with that setup, a huge garg's barg at £99.

A lot of people complain they are made for the bigger bonce, but they are fine on my cro-magnon's skull. The most comfortable set of cans I've used.
