Chinese or Japanese Vewlix

I've never seen any Chinese Vewlix / Vewlix knock off / clone in real life so I can't really comment on their quality...some people are really happy with them, some less so.

However I know some people have trouble telling apart Japanese and Chinese Vewlix or any clones since most look almost identical externally in a passing view or some photos. So below are some distinguishing features of 'Original' Japanese Vewlix*- (pics are borrowed from Neo_Arcadia below and various AO posts)



1) In a Japanese Vewlix when the control panel is lifted (including the back panel covering the move list) there is a JVS control panel PCB - but can't be seen in Chinese/clones (not that it really matters if your using PS360's which shadowloo typically installs)



2)Internally in the lower compartment to the right (behide the right most upper locked door) there should be a Taito audio board mounted vertically on the rear of the metal plate and a LCD control unit PCB which is mounted on the front - it's mounted vertically with a short height and much longer width.

3)Next in the large locked compartment, there should be a long, but thin PCB to the right in the lower compartment also they may (in the Vewlix F only, if in a Vewlix L or AMI, it is likely to be an additionally installed accessory) be a larger vertically mounted Wie-ya PSU PCB to the left again in the lower compartment which again can't be seen.



*I know and own a Vewlix F

Notice in the lower part on the compartment to the right a silver ?PSU - again this is as in Cell's Chinese Vewlix



However there's loads of variation in what can be said to be a Chinese Vewlix - Cell was Assured his was a Taito licensed, but many may well be knockoffs

I guess it really comes down to trying out the cab and seeing what your think, just knowing that perhaps he price should reflect that's it's possible not a 'real' Vewlix.

Not sure if I'm right here but, is there a 100% real vewlix L? There seems to be so many different ones and they all seem to be made in China. The one I'm getting from neo legend next week seems to be another vewlix L with a different screen we've not seen before?

this is how a japanese Vewlix Looks like from the inside.

this is a AMI Vewlix wich is basicly identical to the L. the Wie-ya PSU you see to the left is an extra in the AMI and L , so ignore that.

Anyone got any ideas where a gaijin in Japan could acquire a AMI Vewlix? It looks perfect for myt AtomisWave. I have Dolphin Blue and Guiilty Gear Isuka.

You don't think so? I had mine hooked up to a supergun I made and a computer monitor at one point. VGA feed on the back looks like it would work well. I'm not afraid to get in and rewire the insides. I've already been reading about some people having issues with the sound quality.

Does anyone know any other discriminating features that would be useful? I believe it's been mentioned that many if these clones don't have a Taito chrome serial number riveted to the chassis either? But like I've said I've not seen a clone in the flesh.

Are they really clones. I thought people said they were licensed by Taito?

That is indeed the mystery. The licensing adds a spanner in the works.

This is where all the confusion is.from what I've read over the years there's vewlix clones, vewlix clones licence by taito and real vewlix? But I still don't think I've seen pics of a real black/white vewlix L?(the pics neo Arcadia posted are a AMI vewlix L in blue)

Way back in the AO days superpang bought vewlix F and Mr megalo bought a vewlix L. Both were pretty much at the point of release and both were made (assembled?) In Japan.

It's not a massive help, but there are black and white L's made in Japan

OK I've tried to do a full run through in the initial post - as can be seen in the initial Vewlix L full photo - there was once a Japanese B/W Vewlix L that had the same innards (except the lower Vertical power supply) as the Vewlix F and AMI Vewlix.

However if there is such a thing a modern Japanese Vewlix I have no idea what it's innards look like.
