Will Naomi GD rom plug and play into Astro City 2?

Hi,

I want to buy Ikaruga for my Astro City 2 cab.

There is one on eBay will this just plug and play in my astro city like a normal jamma board?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not too familiar with the Astro City 2 wiring, but I'm pretty sure it's jamma, so you'll need a Capcom or Sega I/O board. Either one of these boards basically serve as a JVS (Naomi wiring) to jamma adapter.

GD-ROM goes into a GD-drive that connects to a dimmboard which goes into a Naomi motherboard wich connects to JAMMA with an adapter.
Also you might need a normal computer ATX PSU to get the juice needed to run the setup.

Which PSU do you have in your AC2? If it has one with an amplifier in it you can get away with using a Sega IO, if not you'll probably want the Capcom IO as that has an amplifier whereas the Sega one does not.

There is some good information on the Sega-Naomi.com FAQ section [here] that I was going to point you towards but it appears that it's temporarily offline.

Ok, so you have an audio amplifier there so you're good on that front. However your PSU doesn't output 3.3v which the Naomi needs.

IIRC the Capcom IO can provide you with 3.3v whereas the Sega one doesn't.

I'm not sure if your PSU is powerful enough though to power the GD-ROM as well as the Naomi mobo etc and I think that may be why there is an ATX PSU pictured in KmanSwedens second picture.

It's actually a SEGA Astro City 2 not a NAC (not sure if they are exactly the same internally)

I got myself a NVS-4000-01 PSU from Japan which came with the retrofit plate & all conversion wiring,the Naomi I bought came with the JVS wiring to plug into the power supply.

I don't think powering a Naomi GD-Rom set up using a capcom I/O board is a good idea,it's ok if you are just using it to power a Naomi / Rom cartridge.

You could add a Naomi PSU as well, and then use an I/O.

No chance you'll manage a GD-ROM setup using a Capcom I/O alone, you're going to need more power whether that means replacing the PSU or adding a secondary one.

FrancoB used to have ATX to Naomi adapters..
With one of them you can use whatever PC PSU you like to drive the Naomi then just use the Capcom for controls/sound/picture.
