Re: Arcade Stool Refurb
I'm correct in assuming no stools are purple originally, right? I know there are red, blue and gray ones, but that's it, right? I thought orange ones existed, but it seems it's just red ones with sweat soaked in. Thanks again for the kind words, I love 'em already.

Re: Arcade Stool Refurb
Never seen purple but have seen yellow, dark red and maroon/burgundy.I suppose when they get damaged the game center ops aren't too fussed about colour matching when re-covering.Your's lookemphatic wrote:I'm correct in assuming no stools are purple originally, right? Re: Arcade Stool Refurb
Old thread but what the hell
Done one of my stools and just need to staple the fabric onto the 2nd one.
My first stool looks to be the same as devilsoundwave's (first post) my 2nd stool looks to be the same as Emph's (previous page)
The first stool of the two I have, is a little taller and a little narrower with thinner brace bars. The seat is made out of ply and held on with 2 nut & bolts.
The second stool (same as Emph's) is a little more squat looking. The seat is made out of hardboard, it's too dense for my staple gun to handle
and is held on with 4 detachable brackets and bolts
Comparison of the 2 stools
View from front (First stool is on the right hand side of the photo)

View from side

No idea how many other bases there are or even if it's of interest to anyone.
My refurb
All came from ebay and cost about a tenner for everything delivered. I thought that wasn't bad considering it was from 3 different sellers so that included 3 lots of P&P. BTW there's enough material to cover about 6 stools but that was the smallest length I could buy. The colour is royal blue and it's velour fabric (NOT crushed).

Got this from over on J+

A bit sad looking and covered in silver spray paint

Removed the fabric magenta>purple>red

All pitted

Polished up with new ferrules

Reupholstered and good as new

Re: Arcade Stool Refurb
Thanks guys
I have no idea what thickness original sponge would be but I used 1" sponge, iirc it was 99p with free delivery
Aesthetically it looks to be the correct thickness for the stool, not too bulky or too thin, it's firm but nice and comfy on the bum too
it looks a bit thin in my photo but its not I think it's just the light/angle of the pic.

The sponge I removed from the first stool had been compressed wafer thin and was really degraded, maybe 2mm thick. The sponge on the second stool was about 5mm thick but it was a completely different type of sponge it looked like all different chunks of sponge compressed into 1 sheet kinda like a sponge chipboard.geotrig wrote:great job dude , is the upholesry sponge sturdy /thick. compared to the original ?

Re: Arcade Stool Refurb
Yeah I want another. Started a wanted thread but seems like they are thin on the ground atm
Budding entrepreneurs - I'm sure good money could be made out of importing a bunch of these sweaty old stools. I've no idea what they go for on yahoo, but I can't imagine it's that much and they are always in demand.
Hang on, why am I sharing such a sound business model with you lot. OK, £600,000 for a 10% share of my new stool business otherwise I'm off to pitch it to the dragons.
