Sega Dino King to Ghouls n' Ghosts conversion

Post by muddymusic »

I've just finished my Dino King conversion, I've seen a few of these done and been impressed with how nicely they can look as little jamma cabs - about the closest thing you can get to a mini cute for under £300 :D

Image

I had a good set of artwork scans for Ghouls n' Ghosts and wanted to stick with a 1-player game that could work well in a mini dedicated cab so it seemed like a good choice.

I got straight in touch with FrancoB as I knew he was working on some very nice conversions to see if he could make new perspex for me. What I was aiming for was the bezel & control panel in 2 pieces each, so I could sandwich artwork between them. A lot of work, but he agreed to 'put them in the queue' :awe:

All the hardware removed and tested to make sure a CPS board would actually fit.

All side art removed

Switcher fitted, tapping 240v from the line filter

Loom fitted

Video wiring done so for the first time I could fire up the cab and see the game. Lovely monitors in these cabs for sure.

I set about making some adjustments to the art to make it fit the cab, and wanted to add a rigid topper similar to the original one.

Printed pieces arrived and looked great!

Franco sent some pics of the finished plastics, my he's good! :awe:

Today I got the plastics and some buttons & the stick I was waiting on so was able to finish the cab after many months.

And here's the finished cab in all its glory. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, I tried not to cut any corners and make it as good as I could and I hope that shows.
Thank you again Franco for the super plastic work :awe:

Lovely :) Exactly the same kind of thing I want to do one day but with a TNZS theme, or maybe Fantasy Zone. Not too sure about how the bezel and topper have come out compared to a Dino/Mushi style, but cool nonetheless.

That's really well done! Very clean work :)
I would just prefer some bigger sidearts. ;)

I'd like to see lots of game specific conversion.

They also fit anywhere.

Guess demand is going to go up now. ;)

That is spectacular! :D I would've added a Player 2 start button though, as it's an alternating 2 player game. :fastlove:

Looks unbelievably good! :)

The topper bothers me a little bit, it's breaking the art style consistency, and, you know, it's a sin. :awe:

I'm in love, really. Superb job. Oh, and congrats to Franco and his mad skills too. :D :thumbupright:

Fantastic work, totally agree about the sides, They would have looked 100% better if he'd have cut out the artwork from the white background, But meh your not gonna see them in between two cabs anyhow.
Agree about the topper doesn't fit the art style as pointed out already, From the PSP version isn't it ?
"Yeah lets all get ponys instead, wait no lol trendy cabs" Err I think you meant Ponies didn't you ?

Indeed the topper isn't from the arcade version but I really like the artwork on it. I have an alternate topper with the same graphic as the side art as well.

Final fight was on my list of potential games to do, all the artwork is easily available. I wanted to stick with a 1-player game though. In the end it came down to GnG, Shinobi, or Mr. Driller.
What I really wanted to do was a Rainbow Islands one, but it would have involved creating ALL the art from scratch and I'd never have finished it.
Artwork was done at colour graphics, all of it is adhesive vinyl with the exception of the topper.
