Re: Anime, what you watching? Comics, what you reading?
I just bought HOTD on Blu Ray yesterday - today its finished. Damn I need some more. I have to admit, Im completely out of touch with anime. I used to be well into it when I was a teenager, and now Im rediscovering it. Maybe Im having a mid-life crisis, as I am 31! Anyway, it would be great if somebody could recommend some decent anime that I might like, as there seems to be no HOTD season 2 I can find. To give you an idea of taste, my favourites used to be - Akira, Street Fighter The Movie, Ninja Scroll and the Guyver series. I also recently bought Bleach, which I really liked, but at times was a little too childish.
As for comics, I went mad and spent over a hundred quid on graphic novels the other month. I bought a Judge Dredd compilation, some Walking Deads, a Red Sonja compilation, Civil War and some Flashpoint novels, because I felt completely disconnected from this DC world of the New 52! I mean, Superman with 'Blue' pants... I just felt really behind the times, and had to catch up.
Should I just admit my age? Or should i embrace my trip back in time.....

How far are you with Bleach? It doesn't get good until after they go to the Soul Society. Thats after 15 episode I think. It's utter crud until then. After that whole arc is finished. Leave it there.ninjawyatt wrote:I just bought HOTD on Blu Ray yesterday - today its finished. Damn I need some more. I have to admit, Im completely out of touch with anime. Have you tried Naruto? It's amazing until it gets to the Ninja Wars.
The Neon Genesis Evangelion redo's. Way better than the emo anime.
The new Berserk anime movies 1-2-3 is the anime series of 25 eps compressed to 3 movies. It's amazing.
Kuroko No Basket. Basketball anime. Currently on hiatus but should return soon.
Which brings me to Slam Dunk anime... One of the best Anime's about. Old though. I don't even follow basketball!
BTW the New 52 universe is supposed to be a mess and not worth following.
Now that you've grown up, try DC Vertigo stuff. Preacher, Sandman etc. Don't bother with Blackest Night stuff.. Stupid and crap.
Will update the list.

It really is. Almost entirely pulled out of DC comics now, only getting a couple of Batman monthlies.skykappah wrote:BTW the New 52 universe is supposed to be a mess and not worth following.
I never thought I'd say this, but DC are worse than Marvel.

Re: Anime, what you watching? Comics, what you reading?
I stopped about 6 months back because they seemed really immature. However, I will be reading from where I left off with Animal Man and Swamp Thing as they were the only good things DC had to offer. Red Hood and the Outlaw is a guilty pleasure though...gundarN wrote:It really is. I'm also a bit of a blind sucker for Green Lantern and The Flash so most likely will catch up with those. But everything else...

I'm about half way through the 2nd season of Bleach. Ichigo & Co' are currently trying to break Rukia out of the Soul Society. I do like it, its just like I said before - It sometimes seems a bit childish, meaning, it seems to be for the younger market.skykappah wrote:How far are you with Bleach? I always thought that Naruto looked a bit childish too, although I've never tried it.
I will check some of that stuff out that you've posted. Nice One

Re: Anime, what you watching? Comics, what you reading?
I'm currently working my way through re-watching all of my my anime movie DVD's.
Here's what I've got through so far, some are classics, some are mediocre and some are complete turds.
18 Studio Ghibli films, just #19 From up on Poppy Hill left to watch
Akira
Alien of Darkness
Blood the Last Vampire
Dead Space Downfall
Ghost in the Shell
Ichi the Killer
Kai Doh Maru
Little Norse Prince
Metropolis
Origin Spirits of the Past
Panda go Panda
Perfect Blue
Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva
Spriggan
Steamboy
Street Fighter Generations
Street Fighter Alpha the Movie
Sword for Truth
The Girl Who Lept Through Time
X
Still got a fair few more to re-watch but I've not really bought anything new (other than Studio Ghibli) for a long long time. What do you recommend? as you can see from my viewing list I'm really out of touch

If you wanna get kids into anime.. One Piece, Naruto, Bleach. Yes generic answers.. but they are commonly recommended because they are good. Adults can watch too.

Started watching Sherlock Hound this evening, there's 20 odd episodes so it going to take a while to get through. Not a new purchase, but one I've not got around to watching before. So far I've found it to be enjoyable viewing reminds me of dogtanian.
