Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
Maybe for filters and overall adjustments. Anything that requires transformations, selections and masks is just so clunky.
I've really tried hard to give it a fair chance, though admittedly it is unavoidable that I've based my work style around photoshop. v3 at that.

Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
You can still do vectors in PS. I've got a few artists I work with that swear by PS for practically everything, and they've been able to output great stuff even in vector form from PS. My only beef with PS vectors is that the working display of them are in raster form, while illustrator's working display is in actual vectors. I never understood why adobe coded PS that way.pubjoe wrote:Yeah, vector, not raster. I just couldn't contain my little Gimp outburst.
I use both PS and Illustrator for arcade art. PS for initial concept and rough drafts, then with the use of Smart Layers I vector things in illustrator while it stays "linked" to those Smart Layers. PS and Illustrator does integrate between each other very nicely in the later CS revs.
Franco, I've got a couple ideas I can put together for you on the Mini City cab. Today's my last day at work before going on a (suggested) vacation, since we haven't signed our new project and my company doesn't want to lay me off due to lack of work. Theyre worried i'll go work for someone else! lol. So I might have potentially 2-4 weeks of sitting on my ****. I can put some time towards this, and we can talk if you need me to do more art for you other than just the C&D stuff.

Photoshop for everything. For me it's just easier to learn to work with one application. There is yet to be something I want to do that I can't do to my satisfaction in photoshop. Google is your friend.

If I weren't already working on a few (too many) other design projects I'd love to give this a shot. Gorgeous work so far on these Franco.

I prefer the right version with the white bg and the simple blue SEGA logo. To me it looks more like one of the older cabs. The other one somehow reminds me of that Sonic game for the GBA.
Wanted: SNK Candy 18 spares. Mainly looking for a marquee holder & the "video games" sign.

Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
Apologies for the late reply. I wanted to get the files sorted before I posted again and they took a bit longer to sort than expected.

I got Inkscape installed but I've been having problems trying to open .eps's, even after installing Ghostscript. I managed to save the drawings to .dxf, convert them to .pdf and open them in Inkscape so I hope that will be suitable for you guys.
I've uploaded .pdfs of the side, fronts and CPs [here]
If you need dimensions of the parts you can refer to these pictures:

The outer edge of the side profile is the dimensions of the cab. I've offset a profile 8mm inside which is probably the maximum sideart size possible, just to give a little room to work with.
The CKS can will just have a horizontal bezel, the 'Sega' one will need horizontal and vertical bezels.
The 'Sega' cab will have a 1L6B panel. CKS is only a two button game but I think I'll make a 1L4B panel for it so I can use it for other games. The panels will be 5mm thick with a 5mm bevel on so the inner profile you can see is the size that the artwork wants to be.
The only part I forgot to draw was the lower front panel of the cab where the coin mech is. I'll get that drawn up tonight.
Thanks all
Shows exactly how little I knowcools wrote:EPS is fine, or PDF.
Use Inkscape. Gimp is fine for editing photos and the like, but I'd never use it for artwork from scratch.

Most awesome, sounds like brilliant timing. Shooting you a well overdue PM now ...opt2not wrote:Franco, I've got a couple ideas I can put together for you on the Mini City cab. Cheers dude, even if you don't have time to help out it would be great if you could pop in and give your thoughts on anything.Softdrink wrote:If I weren't already working on a few (too many) other design projects I'd love to give this a shot. Gorgeous work so far on these Franco.
Thanks for the input. Now I've got some files sorted we can hopefully do something better than my craptacular paint efforts.supergoose wrote:I prefer the right version with the white bg and the simple blue SEGA logo. I wait with 'bated breath.

To sell Illustrator I suppose. Like when they removed a few simple but highly useful image-ready features when Fireworks was acquired.opt2not wrote:I never understood why adobe coded PS that way.

Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
Quicky update. I bought me self an A3 printer on Saturday and printed the marquee and move strip. I can just get the control panel onto A3, but I need to get my protractor from work to work out what angle to rotate the image to make it fit.

Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
I like everything apart from the movestrip
Kinda think an actual instruction strip clone would be better, a-la: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxaCVgx ... sp=sharing"

Re: Sega Mini Cab Conversions
I'm not totally convinced either, Cools.
I already have those moves strips on file. The only problem is that they are only for one game and I have all the pcbs in there.

I don't mind the movestrip. You just need some CP graphics to accompany it. It'll tie it all together.
