Yes indeed - maybe worth adding that to the README in case anyone with a high score modded board switches off their machine at the 'wrong' moment?
Good idea, I will include that for the next release.
Of the "RO 1" issue on the round reached screen ? Afraid not as I can't take a decent photo of my monitor. It ONLY happens with the high score save code though.
I was able to reproduce it with my board... I will try to figure out why and provide a fix, ok?
That is a rather curious issue, it took me a lot of effort to understand why that happens...
The issue does not reproduce on MAME because the emulator is not perfect (or rather, it is better than the real thing).
Basically, the "Today's record" screen has two big meters (green and blue) that move vertically... everything works fine as long as they are NOT both positioned at the top,
which is the case when both levels are set to 1 as done in the score save mod after a power-up.
In that situation, the video circuit is simply not able to draw all the objects in that horizontal line where "ROUND" is positioned.
In fact, "ROUND" is composed of three separated objects, "RO", "UN" and "D ", and the last two are simply discarded (but not when running on MAME).
This is never an issue for the non-moded version because the levels are initially set to 32 and 20, and the "ROUND" is only enabled after the meters have moved vertically to their final positions.
I can't solve that, since it is a HW limitation, the only way around it is to set at least one level to a higher value, but that may look weird. I will think about it.
Just tried the new code in test mode - it's mostly working just fine with one slight problem - it's not recognising the change of bits 7 and 8 of DIPSW B from High to Low via DIP B, they are stuck on High.
Sorry, I missed that report... I will take a look at that tomorrow.

Very nice work investigating the "RO 1" issue - given what you've found I'd say leave it seeing as it's a hardware limitation. :)

Good luck with the DIP switch test screen issue. :)

New release below. This fixes the DIP switch display issue in the Grid and Input test screen.

Please refer to this DIP switch layout:

http://www.solvalou.com/subpage/arcade_dips/B/boblbobl"

Bank #2, DIP switches 7 and 8 should be turned ON for normal monster speed.

Bank #2, DIP switches 7 and 8 should be turned ON for normal monster speed.
ON here means LOW (L).

Just quickly tried the new high score save code in test mode and can confirm that the DIPs are now displaying correctly. Thanks for the fix. :)

I haven't had the time to play the game much though so I hope that others out there are trying it! :)

That looks like it's an actual JAMMA edge connector (as opposed to the 56-pin connector that at first glance looks like JAMMA but isn't quite).

Is it?

How come that board has a (unpopulated) socket for the PS4 chip (at board position 5-E) ?
Was it already like that when you got it?

First i have thank you for the good work on the "redux romset"!
I tried your last version and everything seems to be OK. There is just a little bug :
I cannot disable the attract sounds. If i change dip 3 on switch1 the game isnt booting anymore:
It hangs on a white screen with music playing. Is dip3 working correctly on your boards?

Thank you

The board is indeed Jamma, got it from YAJ. I installed the socket there, wanting to try out the mr.sporty hack - http://mrsportysrb.blogspot.no/2009/07/ ... f-pcb.html"

Disable attract sounds via DIP 1 (the left bank) bit 4 set to ON. Works on mine. :)

DIP 1 bit 3 set to ON puts the game into test mode (on power up) BUT it must only be done when bit 1 of DIP 1 is set to OFF (if it's set to ON you'll get a blank white screen with music playing).

I came into contact with that Mr. Sporty's blog page early on, while I was still evaluating how to approach this mod. My original idea was to burn the actual PS4 microcode into a MC68701 chip (which may still be bought as NOS and programmed by people like Brian from Lucid Technologies), creating my own PS4 and installing it into the bootleg board. I later dropped this idea once I verified that, even though many bootleg boards (including my own) have a physical place for the PS4 chip, the pins are mostly unconnected, since the board traces are missing. It would be VERY hard to try to fix that, requiring a lot of wire-wrap soldering around.

It seems Mr. Sporty has vanished and never concluded his own project, so I came to the rescue of all Bubble Bobble bootleg owners! :-)

Firstly, great work - I admire your dedication!

Any ideas if my bootleg will support your Romset?

hello,
i have the same board.
on my pcb run the rom swap great.

but i have another problem with this pcb:
in the treasure room (reaching round 20 without dieing) - the pcb has grafic foults and its not possible to see the highscore. (only in treasure room) after that room , everything is ok.

can you confirm , that you do not have this foults on your pcb !?
or is it the same?

Cheers for confirming.

Looks like I need to order an eprom programmer. Any recommendations - not looking to spend fortunes but would prefer a USB programmer (saves messing with parallel adapters etc)?

The Wellon VP-280 is a good all rounder for most EPROMs (it also tests certain RAMs and logic chips) - it's fairly cheap too. It plugs into a USB port (it also has a mains adapter which is required for programming EPROMs).

I have one although I mainly use it for testing RAMs and logic chips and programming 42-pin EPROMs - otherwise I use my good old Galep-4 (which plugs into a parallel port) and which is more expensive than the Wellon VP-280.
