Andy, I only banned him because of the vitriolic torrent being spouted. I'm not best pleased at the personal snipes sent back at him, but someone signing up simply to hurl abuse then quitting, I'm quite happy if they're unable to come back.

Was that actually the seller posting in here?

Personally I try my best not to waste people’s time. Posting messages to sellers for the lolz, is exactly that and it’s vastly different to giving someone a nudge when their listing is less than accurate. You could argue that some people invite it and lets face it, it’s easy enough to ignore a timewaster.

No matter what people’s opinions are or whatever “grey” areas they think Mame falls into, if it’s not your IP, selling Mame Roms is illegal.

IF the cab sold as a result of that listing, then they guy was also in breach of the sale of goods act. He may not have been aware that the cab was 2nd hand, but the fact remains. He also can’t use ignorance as an excuse as it has clearly been brought to his attention.

Anyways, what’s life without a little drama. These spats provide more entertainment than any of the soaps on TV, not that I would know as I’m also an international jetsetter :awe:

As entertaining as it was it would be sad if this forum became another NG.com. Maybe there was a bit of over-reaction.

Andy, I agree we've sometimes been a bit harsh, but 'Masters Dom' deserved it. He was masturbating in front of a mirror. In public! It was awful. :(

Finding the cab in the gallery of **** was possibly a bit insulting. I blame the gallery of ****. ...and crunchy.

I agree, masturbating in front of a mirror should only be done later and in the privacy of one's playboy mansion.

I've got to take my fair share of responsibility for this episode, but the guy's listing was a pack of lies in order to push the price up. My messages to him on eBay were polite; "You should be careful that you are not misrepresenting the item", I got trash talk in return. Yeah he had a bit of fun poked at him on here, but I think he deserved it. Maybe folks sending him messages on eBay giving him stick was going a little too far, but seriously, an unknown arcade enthusiast just got conned to the tune of about £1k for what they think is "Imported new from Japan. Never been in an arcade... Perfect throughout... Very little use so far, £2000 BIN.", when the reality is no doubt far closer to "Ex-arcade used cab in good cosmetic condition, original monitor replaced with flatscreen that doesn't fit the bezel, all original wiring gutted and replaced with a jamma loom, complete with illegal rom collection, value £500.".

I can see where andy is coming from in terms of some snobbery creeping in and yeah it's a bit ugly, if people want to mame cabs then it's up to them at the end of the day. But I would stand by the fact that there is a great community here of generous people who will go out of there way to help other enthusiasts. A little over-protective of the product perhaps, but when it comes to people trying to make a fast buck by outright lying about what they have, then I would like to think the response is motivated out of a desire to not see other enthusiasts have their wallets raped by shady characters like this guy. There have been enough well-documented episodes of people being scammed out of thousands through this hobby.

His response on here is nobody's fault other than his own. The nature of what he posted speaks for itself and is probably a good yardstick for his general character and sense of morals.

Very eloquently put. I agree.

In my own defence, although I did send some polite questions purely to poke fun at the guy I wouldn't consider my eBay communication to be malicious. Waste of his, and my own, time yes, but not intended to be I'll natured. The unsuspecting person that paid >£1,000 for that cab is the real victim. Poor chap.
