Wei-ya jamma psu is junk?

Post by Spectre »

5v reading, running ms9, naomi amp and fl tube. Adjustment all the way up.

5v under load, the smallest most pathetic pcb I own (atari tetris). It actually runs too!

What gives? A simple case of faulty/junk psu? It's brand new. Oh and no smart alec comments about the carpet :shh:

Maybe your definition of "fine" differs from mine, but I don't got too many pcbs what run off of +4v innit

Have tried various other bits (cps2, mvs, f3, jamma) and nothing else will get to video, so the reading appears to be correct.

I've never had any trouble with these either.

If it's an option maybe reduce the length of the +5v cable and/or add an extra couple of cables to the +5v line for good measure so there's more copper/less resistance??

Good shout, I'll have a word in Franco's shell-like, I try not to touch this wiring stuff myself. Gives me the willies.

That's a loom I did for Spectre.

There are two 24/0.2 +5v cables which one would like would be sufficient. I don't think the cable length is excessive either, IIRC it was just long enough to reach the PSU where he had it located.

Have you got a normal multimeter? Can you check the 5v output from the PSU with no PCB/loom connected and then check the 5v at the JAMMA edge with no lPCB connected?

Tsk! Those Wei-ya PSUs! Nothing but trouble!

Seriously though, I've used about 5 or 6 of these previously and have never had any issues. Bad luck :(

Was brand new from eBay via richy13 who never took it out of the box afaik. I had it from him in March tho and only just tried it, so it's my own fault. :palm:

Have just ordered another.

Did you check to make sure that it's set to the right AC input? This can happen if it's set to the wrong AC in (110v, in your case). There is a switch on the bottom of the PSU to change it.

There are modified versions to output 3.3V instead of 5V for model 3 use.
might be one of these..

a normal one goes up to 6.8V without load.

Hmm, I'm not sure I've still got the box, but I remember looking at it and I don't recall it being marked that way.

It's marked as +5V 15A on the psu label and I don't see a 3v version on the website (P03 series) http://www.weiya.com.tw/switching_power_supply.htm
