Naomi error 01 possibly related to bios on cart?
I recently pick up an Illvelo cart and when trying to power on I'm getting an error 01.
It came with bios version 21576 H which I installed on the mobo of my Naomi 1 so it should work right?
I looked on the game itself and the bios on the game is version 23605 C which according to this http://sega-naomi.com/bios.htm" is a naomi 2 bio. Is there a possibility that is causing the error?
I just got the mobo and I don't have another cart to test yet (getting one in a few days) so I can't tell if the problem might be the mobo as of now.

Uh, that's not a BIOS in the game cart (or at least, it shouldn't be). Under no normal circumstance should you have any need to change the EPROM on the cart.Kiel wrote:Okay so H bios in both the game and mobo

Well I tried out capcom vs snk and it worked just fine. Looks to be the cart is F'ed.

Not necessarily. Are you talking about error 01 'game is not acceptable by the main board' (or whatever)? I had this with a cart recently and it turned out is wasn't inserted firmly enough. Particularly make sure the top left of the cart is well pressed down.Kiel wrote:Well I tried out capcom vs snk and it worked just fine. Looks to be the cart is F'ed.
I thought I'd pushed it down firmly but it took an even firmer push!
If that doesn't work try de-casing the cart as that's what I've had to do with my net dimm board.
Hope you get it working!

Kiel, to remove any doubt, are you able to get a photo of your Ilvelo cart, the underside showing the EPROM? I'm a little curious about the code EPR-23605C, which is indeed a NAOMI 2 BIOS code.
Unless Sega made an error when the allocated a code number to the EPROM, I'd suggest it's the wrong chip for the cart and that's why it's not working.
I hope that's not the case, but it does seem strange.

here is the pic of the eprom on the game

I've tried cleaning the contacts, inserting the cart out of the casing, and even on the underside of the mobo. Nothing

That doesn't look right to me. How odd.
Do you have a programmer you can use to read the contents of the EPROM?
Maybe andygeezer can confirm my suspicions that for some reason you have a cart which has the wrong EPROM on it.

Re: Naomi error 01 possibly related to bios on cart?
idc is right, the cart will never work with that rom in there.. as it is a Naomi 2 bios rom (Japan region).
Thinking about it, the flash carts don't even use the eprom socket as it's a surface mount boot rom, with nand flash roms and a PIC chip for decrpyting on the fly.

Remove the EPROM and retry the cart.

Yep, maybe the seller put it there to make it easier to ship..yosai wrote:Remove the EPROM and retry the cart.

But try it without the eprom on there.
