Stereo sound in a NAC

Post by FrancoB »

I want to connect the stereo sound from my 360 to my NAC (cue :palm: )

I have seen the [Astro City Stereo Wiring] guide but it doesn't seem to apply to my NAC.

My NAC has the 400-5198CE-01X PSU. It has a volume control on the front of it so I presume it must be a stereo amp?

I can see where I change the sound from mono to stereo and where the stereo input connections are.

The NAC manual shows the 400-5198CE-01Z PSU and the schematic also shows the wiring for it but I'm not sure if this applies to my 01X PSU.

I've had a look at the PSU and I can't see where anything would plug in.

Before I start to tear the cab apart to trace the wires I thought someone may know.

Here are a couple of dusty pics of the PSU. Sorry about the pics, its hard trying to hold a torch and take photos.

I also found this random two pin wire hanging, does anyone know what its for?

You've got the wiring, but not the amp. The NAC had a seperate amp that slotted ontop of the PSU IIRC.

Best bet is just to buy a 2.1 amp for the 360. (I've got one spare if you're interested)

Oh go shush yourself thomj :shh: :awe:

You're aiding and abetting my horrendous crime anyway by helping to source my UVC

@ Andy, cheers buddy, I thought I might be messing something (I usually am! :P )

Looks like I will need an amp then. I do have this little 12v amp kicking about that I was thinking of using:

I imagine that would work ok?

I need to wire up a fingerboard for the PS360s and UVC so I could tap 12v from that. I presume all I would need to do then is plug the 360s RCA plugs in and then attach a male 4-pin AMP connector which will then plug in the female receptacle inside the CP.

Does that sound about right?

I have the same PSU in my AC.. Don't think it's a Amp, just a volume pot.

Yo man, took some pics just for you as a birthday present :awe:

Since I suck at Wikiing, I'd like to ask anyone to add the pics to the Wiki

Note that you can also use / make a Cinch / RCA stereo cable that has an Amp U-P connector on the other end :awe:

Now I know why I didn't get it.. Im missing that entore box with the volumepot in it. :palm:
I have a NAC PSU with a volumepot instead... But I get the general idea now.

The volume pot on the Astro PSU is for the Mono sound (for PCBs with no volume control) - just for completeness :awe:

That is a 100V power supply, used for the NAC Stereo Amplifier that is absent in your cab.. Like stated before, on some NACs it is mounted right below the PSU:

The two-pin wire goes into the left connection for 100v

Oh so that's what that is. Good to know. My cab has the same mystery cord, and no stereo amp under the PSU.

I wonder if that 100v cord could power something if I had the right connector for it?

Yeah, it could, as long as the device you are connecting needs 100v AC. AC is quite normal for providing power to amplifier setups (most amps in cabs use a transformer to go down to a certain AC voltage; rectification is done on the amplifier circuit). Exception to this are car amplifiers, for example. they can often be fed with 12VDC, but they are VERY power hungry.

Hi @Akuma ,
Could I use that speakers connector that you are holding in the picture with the audio outputs of a third-party stereo amp? (Ofcourse I will spare it in four cables) Will it work?
That could be a clean solution without messing with the audio connectors into the control Panel.
In this case when I want to have again the audio from the Jamma I could just put the connector back. Is it right?
