The plot thickens...

Okey doke, hooked up Zero Gunner 2 cartridge and switched on cabinet. Error 1 appears again as before. (no picture sorry).

So onto the multimeter.

I assume this is supposed to be 12 volts and this value is ok?
Image

This is supposed to be 5 volts? And 5.21 is generally regarded to be too high?
Image

I assume this should be 3.3 volts so is 3.25 too low?
Image

Regarding the above is this considered under load as I'm sure I've seen andygeezer say somewhere this is important?

Although not connected (so I guess not classed under load?) I also checked the CN2:
Image
Image

Checked the RAM of the Naomi mobo:
Image

And as you can see the cart is not recognised:
Image

Now here is where it gets odd and hopefully a bit hopeful.

I exited the Naomi service menu and the game booted:
Image

At this point I've switched off in the hope Zero Gunner 2 is not borked completely. Bear in mind I never moved the mobo or cart at all; weird.

Next step is to try and figure out how to remove the PSU cage and adjust the voltages. Any tips AWSD owners?

Also should I turn that 3.3volts up?

And other than 3.3, 5 and 12 volts, is there any other power from the PSU that needs checking?

PSU Cage removed.

Now this is interesting.

I had heard most AWSD's had the wei-crap PSU and in rare cases they had a better??? Taito one.

Is this it? Or do all wei-ya's have the Taito sticker?

And another question! :palm:  (sorry)

Just noticed on the PSU it says 5.25 volts. So it is actually supposed to be that? Will lowering it to 5.0 or 5.1 affect my other game boards?

Have you cleaned the connectors on the cart/mobo that might still be your problem, or its when the cart heats up perhaps, may even need the 2 connectors connected to the mobo if its a power hungry cart not sure 5.25'll blow it up tbh. While your on though just lower it a little, but like you say looks to be whats its meant to be.

Someone above said 5.2 or above is bad news???

If it's when the cart heats up, what does that mean?

And what's the best way to clean the connectors?

I'll lower it down in a moment. Should I raise the 3.3V?

Thanks chop btw, you are a star mate. 8-)

They look fine to me tbh, are the voltages all seperately adjustable or on the same pot?Do you not have a SUN psu? thats what Sega used for naomi i don't know if they are bang on 5 or 5.25 dunno if the .25 would make a difference

From what I understand it can cook them, see here:

and here:

BTW does your AWSD psu have the Taito sticker on? Very curious to know if mine's a wei-ya or something else.

Think mines Wei-ya, no taito sticker, i should get it down to at least 5.10 then to be safe, Channelmaniac knows his onions ;)

Bloody confusing this lark at times  Kinda fun though :awe:

Altered my volts and now have:

Turn on cab:
Image

Test menu at least shows cart name now:
Image

Run cart test:
Image

Exit test menu and...:

Weird. Tested cart again, same result as above. Is it normal for IC22 to show as ---- ?

Switched cab on and off, game boots straight up.

Gonna let it run for a few hours later and see what happens I think.

Ta 8-)

Don't suppose anyone knows where I can pick up a few (correct) M3 X 30 screws for the Naomi cart/mobo?

Maplins don't have them and when I google it there seems to be quite a few variants...

This post made my day. I was just gonna ask this like right now.

Phew thought you might have blown it  But it is looking good :D thank ****
The screws used to seal up this cart are wood screws. Nobody is going to waste good wood screws on a bootleg, they'd just use cheap electronic screws instead.

Hopefully :)

At least the volts are all ok now though I am still wondering if the lower settings will make any difference to other boards (not had an answer on that yet). I'm very much learning as I go along

Chuffed my cab has the rare Taito psu though 8-)

5.1 volt should be fine for most PCBs. The Naomi is just very picky on what it is fed ;-) 5.2 being too high..

Thanks matey for that, puts my mind at rest a bit. 8-)

Didn't want to solve one problem and cause another one later down the line.

I've just about had enough with this now

ZG2 has frozen again tonight and now the cart isn't recognised again. This game has done this from the moment I received it and all my other Naomi games are fine.

I even tried bolting it down with the recommended screws and it still errors.
