Re: Random thoughts.
If you spot any errors in my posts, please do inform me. I'll be the first to admit that my grammar is far from perfect and there is a lot I do not know. That's open to anyone who feels like knocking me down a few pegs. :) I won't learn if people don't correct me, after all.pubjoe wrote:Even though at first I thought "you pompous pranny" and immediately started scanning your post for errors, I must admit, that was a good little lesson and easy to understand. Thanks.
As far as I know, "smiley" is not a proper noun. I could be wrong, but I've never seen it used as such. You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence; that's exactly how I treat it (IE: "smilies"). It seems to be the most logical conclusion.pubjoe wrote:I was wondering recently about the plural of smiley, and if it should be 'Smileys' or 'smilies'. I thought that 'Smileys' is probably correct, because I doubt that 'smiley' is officially a noun at all, therefore it must be a proper noun. Is this right?
...But then, if you're using a word as a noun, should you treat it as any other noun, even if it's a made up one.
My spoken English is horrendous. >_>Bingo83 wrote:Nevermind writing in proper english, most people cant spoke proper england either :silent:
It's a valid point, though. A number of grammatical errors have arisen due to poor diction. For instance: people using the phrase "could of" instead of "could have", which comes from people saying "could've".
I meant that it was directed at yosai. :) I'd already corrected you, but he then replied to my post. I didn't specifically name him because I didn't want to "call him out", as it were. No offence intended to you, yosai, or anyone else.gargoyle67 wrote::yawn:Aypok wrote:The first bit of the post clearly was directed at certain people. :) *ahem*

Your all entitled to you're own use of English I 'spose.
Edit: Also, the correct use of : is in front of the "awe" and then one after it, right?

Re: Random thoughts.
This has been a reoccuring random thought of mine for the last twenty years...
I'd love to hear the original, unused, copyright infringing Lemmings music.
I once read about it in an amiga mag interview. The musician stole little melodies from various artists, such as The Beatles, and lemmified them. I specifically remember 'when I'm sixty-four' and 'raindrops keep falling on my head' being mentioned. Game developers didn't give much thought to copyright at the time, but Psygnosis, perhaps realising that they had a big hit on their hands, requested that they remove the bgm. They knocked out some new tracks, inspired by old out-of-copyright songs as a replacement.
Considering how awesome the Lemmings music turned-out, I wonder if the music that DMA really wanted is even more awesome.
...Oh and I wonder if the 'Lemmings construction kit' that I pre-ordered twenty years ago will ever show up.

Re: Random thoughts.
Deadstorm Pirates is the ****. I'm generally not a fan of autofire gun games and this is clearly aimed at kids and cashing in on Pirates of the Caribbean franchise but its really refreshing swashbuckling stuff. The wheel is a great idea too, although not quite the same with the controller.
