Do they usually have a battery and chips under there?
Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security carts?

It certainly did get interesting. So it has a Toshiba TC55257DFI-70L SRAM there and teh port and battery as well. The thing here is, dumping that SRAM .. if it is still there.DJ Long Cat wrote:Guys, this just got interesting.

Hey, I'm the current owner of that CPS-3 board. Any more info you guys want out of this thing? I checked the battery with a multimeter and it appears to be dead.

I think he's referring to the unusual battery on the board, not the one in the cart.richy13 wrote:whats game cart was it ?? & was it the original battery?Mole wrote:Hey, I'm the current owner of that CPS-3 board. Is it possible that Capcom were considering making CPS3 boards which were cart-free, with the decryption key stored on the board?

Re: Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security car
I think I remember reading up on the white housing part of the board.
Weren't there supposed to be a way to insert a battery so you could save high scores?
Maybe it's just a beta board with this feature. So maybe if you change the battery and get a high score on the loaded game, maybe it'll save it?
Just a thought...
One more thing I wanted to talk about.
You know the CDs for CPS3? Those don't have any copy protection right?
So would it be possible for someone to hack the CD image of an Asian region 3s CD and put the original sound effects back?
And have it working with the CPS3 motherboard?
I know you can have multiple cd versions work with same cart, so it could be possible to do.
It's not as good as phoenixing dead carts, but at least everyone with a dead 3rd strike cart could have a way to play the game again with the correct sound effects.

The cart is the one that defines the region, CD has "all" regions in it. have tested this myself with the Hispanic, US and japanese versions of Second Impact.

I heard that the Japanese version of Third Strike doesn't use the cdrom. Is that true? Also does anyone know what fujita charges to be the middle man for you in getting the Third Strike carts reflashed?

2 versions NOCD and CD version.Bay78 wrote:I heard that the Japanese version of Third Strike doesn't use the cdrom. Is that true? Also does anyone know what fujita charges to be the middle man for you in getting the Third Strike carts reflashed?
NOCD is very hard to get hold off.
Last count was about £100 shipped & fees to get a genuine cart fixed.

Re: Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security car
So if like me you have a dead Mexican cart, the only real option is to get it flashed to the Asian version?
Also since Japan still fix broken carts, is the Jp version of SFIII the safest option in terms being able to get it fixed and have a more complete version of the game (if you are arsed about sfx)

There is a way of reflashing, I think it involves using a cd version board and then swapping the simms.kernow wrote:I heard the NoCD version is a bad choice because if it does eventually die, you're **** and can't even reflash another game to it using a different CD/Security cart. It doesn't have the CD SCSI cable connector does it?

Re: Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security car
IIRC, it's a single-byte flag in the security cart which dictates whether the game is a CD or No-CD version.thegreathopper wrote:There is a way of reflashing, I think it involves using a cd version board and then swapping the simms.kernow wrote:I heard the NoCD version is a bad choice because if it does eventually die, you're **** and can't even reflash another game to it using a different CD/Security cart. You can reflash the SIMMs from a No-CD version of the game in a board which runs the CD version of the same game, then put them back in the No-CD board.
In fact, I'm certain that No-CD boards still have the molex and SCSI connectors, so you could just borrow a working CD version security cart, drive and cables and connect them to the board and reflash that way, then reattach the No-CD security cart and all should be well.

Re: Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security car
Well, since I guess this now a general CPS3 discussion, I figure I might as well get some help.
Right now, my 3s board is having graphic errors.
Some stages will show up fine, and sometimes the stage will have lines running through it or have unloaded graphics(just colored blocks instead).
I can't get pics at the moment, but it looks something like this except with the life bars and characters showing up fine.

Is this a sign of a ram stick going bad or something else?
I've had it happen before, when I first got the board. Over time it went away. It's only recently started doing it again.

Do you have the CD or No-CD version? If it's the CD version with the disc and drive, have you tried a reflash?HyperBolt wrote:Well, since I guess this now a general CPS3 discussion, I figure I might as well get some help.

Re: Does Capcom of Japan still revive dead CPS3 security car
So is there anywhere that will flash a dead cart to the Asian version ? Since I might as well have a working version of the game even if it isn't the best.
