Oh I do that all the time, Even when I don't want to discharge :awe: Don't forget to spit on the end if you want to discharge though for better conductivity ;)

Well I think I have done it :?

I rigged up said appuratus and slid the screwdriver under the anode cap and touched the clip but there was no spark/noise etc etc. I repeated it a few times and then pullled the clip out.

The monitor has been sat out of a cab for a couple of months though so I guess the charge may have dissipated by now?

I guess the monitor is 'safe' to work on now the anode clip is off?

Woot, all done :D

Managed to get the yoke etc off too. It was much easier than expected, thanks for the guide Grant :)

I just need to get the anode cap and clips off for johnnygnct. The cable goes to the flyback but it doesn't look like it unplugs. What do I do, just cut the cable or...? :?

Where are they? I'm going to hang on to the chassis for now if they are on there.

What are wedges?

That big hunk of black wiring that is wrapped around the monitor, and those black rubber things on the neck.

I have stripped those last few bits off. I'm going to take it to the recycling center later. I was reading that you shouldn't take a tube that still has a vacuum, should I neck it or something?

Always fun.

Not sure of the safest way to do it though. I've heard sticking a screwdriver in the anode hole and hitting it with a hammer is a clean (no broken glass to clear up) way of releasing the vacuum.

Worked great thanks :D

Small phillips screwdriver + gentle tap = very small hole. So small in fact that it took about a minute for the pressure to equalize.

Is there actually glass inside the anode hole? As I said it made a very small hole that was crossed shaped like the driver and it seemed to be soft rather than hard like glass.
