Had my first proper playthrough of Batrider today after reading the ST over at shmups. Man, this game is shooter poetry. I've only had it for a couple of days and already I prefer it to Ibara, which is saying something as I love that game in all its merciless glory. Batrider just seems much more digestable to a relative newcomer to shootemups such as myself. I'm sure that will change once I reach the later stages and eventually attempt the advanced course.
Anyway, my best run so far was 2,272,210 - stage 3, normal course with Strawman (B)
the st thread at shmups is excellent. Charlie Chong showed me a few tricks. I'd recomend watchig a superplay vid to see where the destructable scenery / medals are.
Other than that, enjoy you aren't far off the 2nd extend with that score.

I don't doubt that for a second mate since it's already blatently obvious that this game has crazy depth, but it is definitely more accessible for a beginner than Ibara is, of that much I'm certain. The bosses I've encountered so far are nowhere near as tough as those in Ibara and the rank doesn't seem to get as out of hand quite as fast either, at least not the way I'm playing it! With that said though, I've watched the video linked to in the ST thread of what happens if you do let the rank get out of hand - and it looked every bit as intense as Ibara.

Thanks man.
Yeah, those ST threads are such a massive help in trying to get to grips with these Yagawa games. I've already discovered quite a few areas of destructible scenery just by letting the weapon rip whenever I see something that looks as if it could yield some medals. It's so freaking awesome when you guess right and reveal a tastey wee bounty .
I'll definitely watch a superplay at some stage (once progress stalls) but I'm really enjoying experimenting on my own at the moment now that I know a few rank control tricks.
P.S. Coolest looking 10K medals I've seen in any of Yagawa's games!
The killer with rank on batrider is that it starts high on the pcb (to stop the re-setting trick from Garegga) and carries over. So a 1cc or L5 boss run, ramps the starting rank up high for the next credit.
As with all Yagawa games, just ignore rank to begin with. You can only have 3 lives, so don’t collect an extend if you have 3 lives in stock. When you start the game, make sure the test menu dip is on. If you just hit start from there, the game starts with low rank
I’m playing Battle Bakraid just now. More of the same only with mental chaining thrown in. The high level play, which I can but dream of, is insane on it.
I might dig this one back out & see if I can finally bust 5m

Not unlocking any secret bosses yet Using the psychic team mainly so I'm not sure you can that easily?
I dunno just trying to score high and get the 1cc .. one day
Just make sure you chose the same course order every time as this determines what bosses you get. You can still unlock Sobut, Envy & that other one with any team.
Go for Strawman single character. I normally use B.
