Jaleco Pony II 28

Post by Hitesh »

I have had my 2 Jaleco Pony II 28 for around 6 months now. Its about time I posted here about them.

Around October 2013, got a PM from an arcade forum contact telling me that a couple of "project" ponies we on sale at Heart of Gaming (HoG).
Contacted Mark of HoG. I happened to be in Ealing, London that weekend for a wedding so went round to see what was on sale:

Pony No 1

Pony No 2

These were the "runts" of the cabs that Mark had picked up from Trocadero, London. Mark needed the money to fund purchase of some Xbox One(s). I did not look at the cabs for more than 5 seconds. We shook hands on a deal.
They were sold to me as "Non Workers" / "Projects".

Couple of "workers" that Mark and his team were working on at that stage:

Four almost ready to be used in situ at HoG at that stage:

Early January 2014, went to HoG to pick up the two dismantled cabinets and got them home:

Cleaning the Monitor Frame. The frame turned out to be incorrect for the cabinet and has not been used:Image

All items were taken to a local powder coaters and back within a week.
I am really happy with their work and highly recommend them. Keep Powder Coating, based in Uckfield. Cost £100 per cabinet. Wouldhave been cheaper if I had taken both cabinets in one go instead of one by one.

Close Ups of some of the items:

Getting there. Plain Control Panel.

Buttons and Joysticks received from Arcade World. Powder coated Control Panel:

Marquee : Just a Print of a Internet Picture, laminated and but to size. No light in box:

Got the lightbox up and running. Not bad. going to get some cut to size glass or acrylic to sandwich the marquee between.

Machines in situ in my TV room :

The screen is a Makvison 29" VGA:

Overlay from Olly fitted:

Really pleased with ow its turned out :

Original control panel!!!

Thats about it.
Machine one is working nicely in horizontal mode. Machine two is ready for a monitor.

presume the bezels had to be modified to fit the monitors ? tight fit ?

<trk>:I remember catching a big fat one and my friend said "throw it back in, that one already tastes like wood"

Got two bezels.
One cardboard cutout that Mark of HoG gave me.
The Makvision came with a bezel. Its almost a perfect fit. very slight strain on one side.
Second from last pic has the Makvision with Makvision Bezel

I think the White is much better than original colour, There is someone who has done them Red.

Something about the metallic gunmetal grey on these I love. The ones in HoG are just flat grey aren't they?

Looking good in white, but why did you change the text colours on the control panel?

Very nice. W'sh I'd known there were some for sale as I was after these for ages when they were still at Troc, but glad they have all been saved. You've done a great job. :)

Good stuff!

I gotta say though I do prefer the grey on these, I think it suits them really well. I would even be tempted to go a little darker.

They came up beautifully Hitesh.

I like the grey too, but maybe not for the home for some reason.

Thanks for the tip. Local and cheap - that's fantastic to know. Did they strip the old paintwork in the price too?

i was thinking that. I've just bought two from HOG my self. In better condition so wouldn't really want to have them repainted, but not sure I'll like the grey next to my white Sega cabs.
Suppose it won't matter when the games are running and the main lights are off :)

Seems to be some in, some out.

The four Ponys are running classic games... Last time I went I think it was G&G, TNZS, Final Fight, Sunset Riders. They're an attraction but they don't exactly get much play time, so 4 is plenty I reckon.

Looks like you've done a sterling job on your cabs 8-)

There's something about angular cabs, I find the aesthetics just so pleasing.

I also like the grey but the white looks very good too.
