Drilling Locks (Blast City)

Post by davewellington »

Hey guys
The Blast City that arrived yesterday doesn't have any keys :( I've tried all the keys from my NAC's and Naomi, but no go, I can't break in. So i'm planning on drilling the locks (unless someone has a better idea..).
Here's the locks i'm dealing with:
Service Door lock:

Control Panel lock:

They're not as blurry in real life. Can anyone please point to where I'm supposed to drill on each lock? I read somewhere to drill with an eighth inch, and then quarter inch, is that right?

Cheers!

You have to remove the small screw first. Then your key might work.

The part in the center of this picture works as a washer and the screw goes through it and stops the movement of the lock toung (pictured in the bottom right corner)

may be a way to break in and remove the locks. you can get into a naomi without keys if you have long arms :awe:

Not a chance on a Blast. Might be able to get the door open, but not the CP.

You could get the door off via the back hatch maybe, but not the CP.

Much like an E2.

What number was the key you tried in the top lock? 5380?

Listen to KmanSweden, try to remove the screw first. Then your keys will probably work.
It'll be a shame to drill out those original and rather expensive locks.

Removed the screws, still no go.
My flat Naomi keys are G17746 and G17565, and my NAC keys are SEGA 5380, and a bunch of MIWA keys which look nearly exactly the same but have a flatter profile, and the hole in the upper portion of the key only goes part way through.

I don't want to drill the lock either :(

Can't you improvise something to reach into it from behind - monitor hatch to bolt off the nut of the service hatch? Then you might be able to bolt off the nut from the CP lock from the inside from behind

Edit: Nevermind - I thought you were talking about an Astro City. Never worked on a Blast so I don't know if that even has a rear monitor hatch :palm:

There's a limited range of Sega type keys that fit the matt lock - maybe someone can lend you some non 5380s?

Notably i've got the bezel off (it just popped out, I imagine it didn't fit properly with the touch screen running over the top of the monitor), and so I can get the monitor out today and see what I can reach (just need a new wrench). Really need to get into the CP though.

Who wants to lend me keys :D?

It would be a lot of work, but if you remove the monitor first, you could probably reach and remove the bolt that keeps the lock together.
From the backside lid is a no-go if you ask me.

Stop!!!!! There is a much easier way - lol

OK

Open the monitor access door at the rear of the game - 2 screws

Adjustable spanner - remove the nut off the back of the coin door lock - that will give you access to the doin door area

Using your spanner - take the nut off the rear of the main PCB access door area - that will make the door loose but not allow you to remove it at all - next step is the trick

Using a pair of long nose plier (and you have to feel your way round this) loosen the nut that holds the lock in place - make sure you turn it the right way - anti clockwise - you'll only get a little bit of a turn on it and you can then hand loosen it off - take that nut off all the way and the door will open as the lock bar will come off as you pull the lock out through the door

After that the control panel is a little trick in itself - but you need to put your hand in the access hole (left hand side) at the rear of the control panel (next to the monitor bezel pull down tab) Pushing your fingers or thumb into the hole - you can pull back or ease back the locking lever and voila - all locks opened on the blast and no drills or damage

I might make a video of this for the youtube channel if anyone wants to see them broken into - in a professional capacity of course ;)

Once you've done a few they are easy - about 5 mins start to finish per machine - first one took a while though as I had to figure it out

Thanks!! I managed to bust the service door open while I had the monitor out, the lock now turns with a knife which is useful. But I haven't yet managed to get into the CP, I took the drill to it last night but my one drill piece is too large and so I didn't get anywhere. I'll try and follow your instructions and see how I go :) If you do a video, that'd be awesome to see too :D Cheers!

Smoking and children. Never underestimate just how dirty those two things can be.
