I was starting to take another thread in this direction, but I don't think it belonged there, so I'm gonna ask this here. Sorry to the guy that tried to answer my question before, I'm still a little confused about this.
So if I have an arcadevga, with jumpers set on 15 and 31khz connected to a blast city w/ original tri-sync nanao, is there a way I can make sure that all mame & ggpo games display at their original resolutions @ 15kHz, and newer games like SF4 display at 31khz 640x480, without having to make any changes to how the card is outputting, or the monitor is displaying? If Can i set configs in mame & ggpo, and the card will just know what to output the signal at based on that, and what I have the pc games set to display in their own settings?
From what I've read it SEEMS like the arcadeVGA can automatically switch between 15 and 31khz if you have the jumpers set, and the tri-sync monitor can auto-switch- but since I have no experience I don't know if this is actually the case or there is acutally something you have to do. If possible I'd like to be able to just choose the game- be it in mame, ggpo, or stand alone exe based, and have it output at the correct resolution automatically.
Thanks

Re: where is the resolution/refresh set, emulator or card?
IF...you are going down the arcadeVGA route then your resolutions and refresh rates are set within mame for each game as a ini file. You can do this either manually (long **** time) or by using a utility like avres which goes through each game and generates it's own ini files for you without you having to go through each one manually...however...that's not exactly true as you will find that it will have worked with the majority of games but not all as some of the native resolutions will NOT be supported by the arcadeVGA card. In this instance you will still have to go into the properties of that particular game in mame and change the settings accordingly.
Once you have run your avres setup in mame it's then up to the arcadeVGA card to support that native resolution setup from mame, via it's onboard set of custom resolutions and output the signal correctly to your arcade monitor.
I think...!!

I thought you just added "SwitchRes=1" to mame.ini. ...And then manually change the games that didn't play along.
Also, afaik manman, your monitor should be able to auto switch when plugged in via the VGA.

appreciate the help guys, just the info I was looking for. I'm sure I'll have to make some tweaks, but if that works with the majority of games I'll be happy.
Anyone know how GGPO handles that stuff? Changing thread title to be more specific now

Exactly!! I did this after i ran avres...but you still need to alter some manually...pubjoe wrote:I thought you just added "SwitchRes=1" to mame.ini. ...And then manually change the games that didn't play along.

Re: GGPO: how is the resolution/refresh set for each game
Hi,
im runnign GGPO on a dedicated winXP PC connected to a europian scart TV. The PC has a standard AGP graphics card (old radion 9250) wich gives out 15kHz resolutions via VGA. A small tool called soft15kHz is needed for this. It ads 15kHz resolutions to your system. In GGPO aka Final Burn Alpha go to Video -> Fullscreen Resolutions -> other and choose a res near your emulated arcade system.
