Damn. Namco Ridge Racer monitor fault

Post by yeti »

Image

This isn't a good start to my Ridge Racer cabinet project - anyone know how to fix a field collapse on this monitor?

It appears to be a Hantarex 33" - There's a sticker on the power supply section of the monitor's board that says "CH FAM 63200900" - bit of googling shows it's a Hantarex.

Thanks.

well probably a simple repair,
most likely you have a bad solder joint on the flyback transformer-you will need to lift the chassis out and take a look all around for any bad solder joints
check the remote control board is plugged in correctly are there are no bad solder joints there

if this is all o.k then the next step is to check the following
R167 - 2R7 resistor (anti flame safety)
check for +25 volts at test point 31-if yes then change IC103 TDA 1675
check vertical size pot on the remote board
check D127
remember always switch off the power to the cab before you move anything and be careful not to stretch cables or damage the neck

The chassis was in pretty poor condition tbh - lots of dry solder joints. I think I must have spent 2 hours just picking away at the board when I got it. The unit was badly stored in a damp area (this was one of the two stored outside!!!!!) so I was fixing one problem and stumbling across another. It did give me output as I tested boards on this machine.

Thanks guys!

All fixed, working fine with the PC thanks to Soft-15kHz as well!

woohoo!

Even got Ridge Racer to work on it, but the Playstation emulator doesn't seem to like the analogue controls.

Added a handbrake too - just a switch just now, but I'll add a pot onto it sometime.

cold solder joints.

I discharged the tube, took the board out, tested the Diode and resistor you said, they checked out OK.

I resoldered a bunch of dodgy looking joints, and when I plugged it back in to test TP31 the test pattern came up.

I'd already made the cable up for the PC, and I'd already installed Soft15Khz on it, booted right up!

Thanks for your help Grant.

Just need to sort out the speaker system (and some grilles) add some extra buttons to the panel, wire up the handbrake (and fit some brake shoe springs to it so it actually has tension - it can be adjusted the same was as it was on the Evo it came off of then!) and find a gearstick!

One of a certain MODs mates - hardly his fault however - I placed the unit on Freeshare, he came collected it and now selling off the parts. Same location. Not that many RR cabinet owners in that location I tell thee, plus the car parts... yeah same person. Shame, but I guess he can do what he likes, but I think in future I'll just do it myself. Charity begins at home etc. :(

I modified the cabinet to run a PC - so i listed the Power supply and volume control on ebay as I don't need them.

I'm sorry, I should have thought about offering them back to you as spares.

I still have everything else - although I still haven't got a gearstick yet!

EDIT: Just remembered I still have a coin mech I don't need if anyone wants it.
