MAK Strike - no sound, bypass attenuation circuit?

Post by JackieHarris »

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I did look for a long time and couldn't find any real answers (although I found a few similar problems).

It seems that the MAK Strike doesn't work well with some Cave PCBs, and you end up with no sound. Apparently this is due to the audio attenuation circuit. I have this problem with DoDonPachi DOJ, and I'm trying to figure a way around it. I COULD run a mono line from the MAK phono plugs into separate speakers, but it would be neater to have everything coming through the TV (like it does with other PCBs).

I'm guessing I need to bypass the audio attenuation circuit. Can anyone tell me if there's a simple way to do this? Or maybe there's some kind of adaptor that can be used? If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

Presumably the Cave board does not amplify sound then? Thus attenuation is taking the signal too low for the TV to deal with it? Can you run a mono line to phonos and plug into the telly?

I didnt get sound through the phono things either on mine, since they went through the circuit too. Only way would be to tap the sound off the jamma edge or some point before it enters the circuit. If you search AO you'll run into a post of a guy that actually knows what hes talking about and has some writeup about reaistors/capacitors etc

Thanks for the replies! :D

I can, but the video is coming through RGB SCART, and I can't have RGB SCART video input + separate phono audio input at the same time (as far as I know, anyway). The aim is to get both audio & video through SCART.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I'm useless with electronics, so don't know how to build Korszca's schematic. I guess I'll try to find someone who can build something like that & tell me how to hook it up to the MAK, unless anyone else has other suggestions!
