IGS PGM - Killing Blade Plus, KOV 3 KR Questions

Post by Paulie »

Killing Blade Plus for the IGS PGM, I know this is listed on the AO wiki but I can't find any info about it at all. Was it ever released? AO wiki states 2005. If it was released does anyone own it and could maybe explain the differences between this and the first Killing Blade, or is it just a hack?

Knights of Valour 3 Kingdoms Rivality - Special Verson. I spotted this for sale on an overseas online store but there was no info about it. I was using google translate so thought it could just be mistranslation of Knights Of Valour Plus / Knights Of Valour In Three Kingdoms or maybe a it's just a hack? Any info would be great.

I also spotted a couple of hacks whilst searching for info on these 2 titles
Street Fighter vs Knights of Valour
SNK KOF vs Knights of Valour

Finally I've just added 3 in 1 to the wiki. Anyone Know what year this was released?

Cheers
P :)

Sounds like a poor translation of KoV Plus to me.

Yeah, thinking about it that seems to make more sense than a hack.

Cheers Dave :thumbupright: I presume a few carts must be out there then, unless it was a proto?

I've been searching for The Killing Blade Plus for a long time Paulie but have never seen the cart for sale anywhere. Seems to be one of the rarest PGM games. It's definitely an official release. I remember a while ago someone at neo-geo.com said they owned the cart. In the Plus version you pick 3 characters instead of 2, you can choose the bosses on the character select screen and each player has 2 lifebars. Not sure what other differences there are. Here are some pictures from an arcade:

Although I really like Martial Masters and SVG, The Killing Blade is my favourite PGM fighting game. I wrote an FAQ for Gamefaqs and have played the game quite a lot online. Here are some really good match videos I found recently:

That seems to be a hack of the 2004 official release KOV Super Heroes Plus.

I bought that 3-in-1 cart from excellentcom a few weeks ago Paulie. It's from 2004 and the games included are Photo Y2K 2 and 2 different card games.

I added KOVSH+ and Puzzli 2 to the wiki.

Thanks a lot mate for all the info :thumbupright:

.

Thanks for the date. Yes I saw the 3-in-1 cart and also the happy 6-in-1 on excellentcom the other day, they seemed to be reasonably priced but TBH at the time I didn't really know what games were on the carts.

Glad the info was of interest. :)

You have a great PGM collection I noticed.

I know what you mean it's hard to find info about the less well known PGM games. I wouldn't be surprised if there are still a few games we don't know about. I fairly often look for PGM info on the net but only just found out about the 3-in-1 cart recently and it came out 8 years ago.

It might not seem that important but I was wondering what the full translated title for the 3-in-1 game is. There's a word before 3-in-1 '閃亮'. According to Google translate it's either brilliant, shiny, sparkling or shining.

In case anyone is curious which games are included in Happy 6-in-1 there's a quiz game, a tile matching game similar to the Dragon World titles, a cooking game and three card games. Quite amusing that IGS created an arcade cooking game! You see a picture of a meal and then have to choose the correct ingredients.

Thanks, I've really enjoyed all the PGM carts I've played so far. i would like to eventually give all the games in the library a go, i think theres about 14 or 15 that i have yet to try.

would you mind sharing a picture of your collection?

Yes i look a fair bit too. people seem to love or hate it, i think if you like side scrolling beat em ups, fighting games and puzzle games its a great addition if you want to try something new. With it not being a staple of people's collections like MVS, CPS2 or Naomi and the lack of info/ western popularity there may well be one or two titles waiting to be discovered, I certainly hope so.

Interesting and that makes sense, like the 6-in-1 as that's called happy 6-in-1

The cooking game sounds fun, I look forward to giving that a go one day, but I'm no chef

Yes I agree Paulie the system is particularly good for those genres you mentioned especially side scrolling beat 'em ups.

I'm terrible at that cooking game. My knowledge of Chinese cuisine is a bit lacking. You'll probably do better than me!

People don't mention the Photo Y2K games very much but I really enjoy them. Quite addictive with 2 players. The kind of games you put on for a few quick rounds and 40 rounds later you're still playing.

My most recent purchases and the collection so far:

I'd like to find some suitable boxes similar to the 'neominibox' and get some custom labels made.

@Shou That's interesting I always thought it was an official release. At the Mameworld forum JacKc (FBA) also said it's an official release.

-----

I noticed ebay seller 'drkittykr' is selling Oriental Legend Special Plus on his blog and he states that it's a single board version. I assumed that game was cart only.

A recent post by David Haywood that I thought was interesting:

I thought about making a box, because i need boxes for my PGM games too, it's just too expensive to make a tailor made box for PGM, there is not enough people interested into this system.
Now i'm using mvs original boxes for pgm, but i'm still searching for another solution ;)

I've only got two PGM carts, Demon Front and Dodonpachi 2: Bee Storm. This thread has given me the urge to dust off the system off and check out some of the other games. :awe:

What size are PGM carts? I've had lots of boxes from http://www.bectechpackaging.com (UK company) who have a range of sizes that work well for various pcbs and cartridges.

Yes on the whole labels seem to have some peeling or are ripped.

I have one or two with a peeling labels. Would it be bad form to stick peeling labels back down with a bit of glue?

Hi 'VB'. :) I thought of contacting you but figured, like you're saying, that there probably wouldn't be enough demand to make it worthwhile making 'polyminiboxes'. I used to have a few of my PGM games in MVS shock boxes but would definitely prefer boxes like your ones.

Thanks for the link Spectre. Those look ideal for carts. I guess the 250 x 160 x 45 boxes would be the best size to go for.

Thanks Paulie. :) I just ordered Puzzli 2 but still need to get KOV Super Heroes Plus. You have a great collection yourself. Are there many carts you still want to get and do you plan on getting boxes or keeping the carts loose?
neogeomvs wrote:Really want that Spectral vs Generation cart Merlin. One hard cart to get :(
Took me quite a while to find SVG neogeomvs. It's rare to see the cart on ebay. I got my one from ckchan (Skywaypro). I hope you manage to track one down before long. Don't know why people dislike this game so much I've always enjoyed it.

For anyone thinking of getting into PGM it's well worth keeping an eye on the stock clearance section of the HK Legend site. They have some great PGM deals there e.g. motherboard + Oriental Legend for $88. Far cheaper than ebay.

polyminiboxes
I'm thinking about it... i think i need around 100 boxes sold to make a production with the same prices of the neominiboxes.

Months ago i made a possible label too ;)
