That was completely mad.

And I hope you've learnt the lesson that chip extractors are evil, evil tools. :)

I will have my DOJ fixed (hopefully), too. Pity I will not be able to really play it again though, I might take it for a quick run to a friend once I visit him again.

Do you want to have a new battery installed, Kern? Since the default options are perfect anyway I decided against it...for security reasons. :awe:

As I said the battery are supposed to be useless. But I replaced my 3 first generation pcb (Esp galuda, Ketsui & Dodonpachi daioujou) battery.

I now have both Kernow's and The Enigmatic Form's boards so will be working on them both this weekend. Updates will be posted here and of course sent via PM to their owners. :)

Decided to make an early start ......... The Enigmatic Form's board is now working pending more testing. It was in fact working when I removed it from the box, but I found that applying pressure to the 27C160 EPROM caused it to crash. Removed that EPROM, cleaned the pins, re-inserted and it hasn't crashed since.

More testing to be done yet, also need to look at the corrosion issue on Kernow's board as that's still up the creek without a paddle in sight ..........

Great to hear, thanks! :D

But please clean the place where the battery was anyway, because I missed that and fear that it could cause damage in the long run.

****, I took out my DOJ to check it after seeing this thread, and my Varta battery was looking like a botanical garden!

Thankfully it was localised to just the end facing the jamma edge, and the acid residue hadn't leaked too drastically over the board. I de-soldered it and used Sarsons Malt vinegar on cotton wool and a toothbrush and thoroughly scrubbed the whole area until it was gleaming - and the board is running fine.

I have no baking soda, is it worth getting some? I'm **** scared it's going to spaz out in a few months... :problem:

kernow wrote:Mines actually dead. It couldn't be repaired :(

Anyone with a DOJ should either run it out of the case with battery (like galuda), or run it in the case without battery.

In case with battery = NO

And to think people buy DOJ cases to put their Galuda's and Ketsui's in, thinking they are protecting it - when they are doing the exact opposite.

So yeah anyway, $400 + costs trying to repair etc down the **** for me

Maybe we should have a 'buy kern a DOJ chip in' :awe:

Does this battery problem happen on newer cave pcbs kern?

Yesa. You need to neutralise any trace of acid. Baking soda is alkaline so would do the job nicely.

If you´d need desperately one to play I´d lend you mine.

But I don´t see the connection between the case and leaking batteries to be honest. Sooner or later the other PGM-based board´s batteries will also leak. And if you have it at home and play it every now and then it wouldn´t make a difference. Furthermore, you don´t hear people complaining about other platforms who need a fan, and you don´t see them taking the PCBs desperately from their cases.

Maybe, but that doesn´t change the fact that the used batteries don´t have a long life and tend to leak when they die. So every Ketsui and/or Espgaluda should know what to do.

Sorry if I sound a bit annoyed, but it reminds me of the time when some CPS2/3 stuff died and people became so paranoid that those who where fairly new to this hobby always asked if this or that platform has a suicide battery.
