This item has so far cost me 50% of its sale price in return shipping and fees.

Watch me get whacked for customs.

Nice bit of karma. An Intel NUC, sold as new unused... empty.

Clearly used. Containing RAM and SSD :) That would pretty much cover all the nonsense with the international return if I hadn't also bought RAM for the thing in the meantime!

I find it very annoying on eBay now when you view a item the seller can send you a offer even if its not in your watch list my inbox now has major spam :problem:

Bought something early July. Opened case a month later, seller provides an RM 1st/2nd class "tracking" number. Continued to wait for delivery. Case auto closed today. Went through online support, requested a callback. Explained situation, was told about appeals process (30 days after closure). Escalated immediately to appeals team who check the tracking and go straight to a full refund. Four minutes on the phone, no waiting around.

Less than a tenner in value but that was super smooth, impressed.

Nice. I'm a fan of modern ebay. Huge improvements in most areas, they look after sellers and the painless phone support is especially impressive.

Really? I've had some right drama's recently with a buyer who bricked an Abernic handheld and complained it was faulty. Likely just stole Roms off the memory card or at least tried installing some custom setup and failed - Sent it back to me with scuff marks on the case - indicating they'd clearly cracked open the case/housing and tinkered inside as well. Now I have a paperweight and have lost out on shipping twice and I can't leave the buyer negative feedback! Im still with Grr Ebay

You still have the unavoidable problem of your word versus someone else's, and you still can't leave a buyer a negative.
  • Go to the help pages/helpbot and prompt: contact support. You'll probably be phoned in less than a minute and have the most pleasant chat of your week.*
  • Insist that the item has been returned damaged/worthless. You have photographic proof of the item before and after. Make your case simple and obvious. Clarify evidence of 'tampering' or 'damage by buyer'.
  • In these circumstances ebay still won't really pick a side but they will make good for both parties. If they say you can appeal and fill out an affidavit then you're in - they'll refund the value of your sale.
I've heard the Irish call centre has more power for this. Maybe just anecdotal coincidence, dunno. I've had success twice over the last couple of years, both between £100-£200 (this used to be unheard of).** I'm pretty sure one was an Irish call centre and the other was Indian. They're all lovely.

I've got a good long standing account - no doubt helps, and they love congratulating you for this.

*I'm sure you could phone multiple times a day asking stupid questions and you'd always get kind patient advice and chatter in response. I can't praise their support enough.

**Problems are always from PC components / tech. They just attract the worst cheapskate sweaties and provide them lots of opportunity to chance their luck. I have no idea how some ebay stores manage to specialise in this category.

With the change making eBay fee free for private sellers (within reasonable limits, and UK sales only), I need to get on and list a bunch of stuff I've been waiting for time and an 80% off to coincide for.

Bonus points - Facebook (Meta) are requiring use of personal data for training AI. Even if you object, there are exemptions. Shame, I quite liked my Facebook Marketplace only account, but with eBay stepping up to the plate I've probably no longer a need of it.

yeah i reckon this is what they were targeting i'd guess more so when going this route. ,I reckon listing were way down due to competition from other selling apps and marketplaces

I went to sell something the other day with a buy it now (set to UK buyers only) and a guy from the United States immediately bought it with an address for a Unit on an industrial estate in the UK.
Looking up the address online revealed Reddit posts of people getting scammed at the same address. I cancelled the order as the payment had a 3 day hold and didn't relist it.
Feeling pretty hesitant to use ebay now!

You would have been fine. Ebay's money back guarantee doesn't cover people who use mail forwarding services like that. The people who got scammed will have been people who haven't read the terms and conditions so don't know what argument to make to customer services.

I stopped selling outside the US on ebay years ago since most of the scamming is always from outside a sellers home country, I won't even ship to Canada anymore because their post office sucks harder than the US. I flat out have all countries blocked, I still get messages from people begging me to ship out sometimes I never answer. A few times someone bought something from me from China with a US middleman address and never had any problems. KNock on wood I have not had any sales go bad even though I get the occasional person buying something region locked then realising they can't play it, never had to give a refund as all items are listed clearly. One time recently this year someone tried to hit me with a refund for non-delivery but since the tracking number was good ebay told them to kick rocks and nothing happened.

I sold a RC item on ebay a on the 20/09 & it shows delivered (with photo) on the 23/09 but now the buyer says he's got back from holiday 3/10 & no parcel but says his daughter was in & nobody knocked without contacting me first opened a dispute straight away

Evri of course can I claim on this or will the courier just say they have proof? its only £35 so prob genuine.

Edit:

Just got a email to say his neighbour took it in for him strange how a dispute was opened before he checked with them :problem:

You know this is the first problem like this I've had with about 20 years of trading on ebay but I got a message saying until this is resolved my account could be limited & they would reclaim the money from my next sale unless I issued a refund.
We'd previously contacted you about a request that **** filed for an order placed on 20 Sep, 2024. The reason for this request is that the buyer hasn’t received their item yet.
Until the request is resolved, the transaction amount will be withheld from future payouts.
