It is! Cmon, highlighted random letters in words? Restricted minimum tile quantity (a 3x3 or 2x2 grid would be nice)? Forced text labels (would love to be able to just have titlescreens)?

I did hack most of the crap out of it in the past but never managed to get it quite right.

No Hyperspin, as thats windows only.

AdvanceMenu, Wah!Cade, RetroPhoenix etc all fine though, as those are open source / SDL / X based.

Off topic, apologies - but surely I can't be the only one that thinks something like this:
Untitled.jpg
Is more attractive than ANY sort of text list? Hyperspin is a bit OTT with its themes but it at least has a good looking menu that uses the game design effectively.

Holy crap, Pyrecade seems like it might be able to do something right: http://pyrecade.sourceforge.net/"

Of course it's a matter of taste, but the little i have seen of the three aforementioned frontends looks much worse than Hyperspin. On the other hand, I ain't no strict Hyperspin fanboy, I have also made different MaLa menus which looked nice IMHO. It's just that plain gamelist plus **** line around it plus random **** like 3d models of ugly american arcade machines isn't exactly what I'd call a good looking frontend... as long as you can also cycle through flyers or other artwork it'll be alright.

I didn´t mean the default coinops5 frontend. I meant the fullscreen text list of games + video of the selected game in background kind of thing, with heavy emphasis on being able to easily change the sorting system of the list on the fly by system, by genre, by year of release, by developer, alphabetically, whatever. Once there are big picture tiles of the games then it is going to get quite heavy to browse. Though I can´t see why that couldn´t be an option.

Something I love about AdvanceMENU is the .mng support (animated .png) along with how you can rotate it just by the press of a button (along with all the games in your game list if you have both vertical and horizontal games in the same list). When I had my RedBox (PC based Chinese GameBox) I had a mod installed with AdvanceMENU + AdvanceMAME 1.06 using custom background music and .mng files for all games. I really liked that frontend, looked snazzy in 15kHz too.

I still prefer MaLa with a skin change out of all the front ends I've tried.

tbh, i'd rather have a text list. The idea is to play the games rather than pulling off over a nice looking front end.

Something like this is fully functional and takes minimal resources, I'm probably the only one though.

The only trouble with the built in UI is that it's not usable without a keyboard.

I see, I've never had a cab MAME setup with more than a dozen ROMs. You could modify the GUI it to show the full list?

You could, but you may as well just use one of the text list front ends then and save yourself the effort :geek:

I like a nice graphical menu, makes the thing feel complete.

If you emailed asking about getting stickers, and I emailed you back confirming (which I did for everyone who asked), then we shipped to you. Conversely, if you didn't ask, then you aren't getting.

So.... send me an email asking with your address, and we'll sort you out with some stickers!
Same goes for everyone else - We shipped out about 30 envelopes of stickers, then 2 or 3 stragglers, so still have more if people want.
Just ask :D
