Exact same issues as you that I managed to fix.
bridging pin 14 to 1 on the PCB edge connector for video ground fixed it for me. The reason the P1 and P2 buttons are most likely not working is because the PCB is not properly grounded yet.
My Bad, I thought you were talking about the ground wire I already fixed.
Will crack on tonight!
Any further luck...still would love to hear some feedback on the shmups.
For the older games with a more static background I think theyre great, and for the price its hard to beat.
The games with scrolling backgrounds, ie shooters etc, there is severe tearing.
yeah I've heard the PB3 is pretty good for Horizontal games, but with the vertical ones like the shmups there's some bad scaling and lots of screen tearing going on. Just wish the PB3 had a true free play mode.
I'm really curious about some of the Toaplan and Cave shooters on the 412-in-1 Blue Elf/Game Elf though. Lots of mixed reports on the games with this one. I know when I owned it, there was some definite games that did not play well. Like Galaga 88 was super slow and had no explosion sounds I remember playing Guwange and DonPachi briefly while I had it, but I was also using an LCD monitor and VGA. Would really like to know if these are even decent over CGA. The price of CAVE and Toaplan boards are so out of my league that I'm thinking this might be the only way I could potentially play them.
the CAVE games play well but you will notice a difference in the refresh rates. The vertical elf is a convenience more than anything else for CAVE stuff. Proper PC emulation will eventually be the best way to play them short of buying the actual PCB.
edit: Actually, 32bit console conversions is not too bad as well....trade off most inaccuracy of multiboards for loading time.

Haven't got round to fiddling with it yet I'm afraid, so its sitting under under a box with some new MVS carts I got recently.
I did use it yesterday to rest my PC Engine on while I was testing a new joypad adapter, and had run out of space on my TV Unit, so it has that functionality going for it at the moment, and it does that task very well.
