Re: Best. Console. Ever
Going on memories, it's the Snes, hands down. It wasn't the first console I owned but the amount of seasonal memories are unsurpassed. One of my first imports ever was Secret of Mana - Super Play wouldn't stop banging on about it. It was an expensive buy for a kid with meagre pocket money - I needed the adaptor which was at least £25 and the game which was running at £55. I think I sold some stuff in to get it, but it was one of the most memorable Christmas's ever - I couldn't stop playing it. It blew my mind.
Now I'm writing it's all flooding back: Solid mario kart for hours on end, Whirlo (Xandra's big adventure) was a beauty, Mario World... Link to the Past was one of the most amazing gaming summers ever. Assault Suits Valken was something else, I told my mum I was sick and couldn't make it school after it came in the post and tore through it the next day. The last boss was pulse pounding. I died, reset, started all over.
Contra Spirits - that was when I had a birthday party and everyone ended up playing that instead of doing anything else. It's still amazing, I was playing it the other day.
What else...
Street Fighter Turbo of course and Mortal Kombat 2 was the best conversion going. Legend of the Mystical Ninja was like my first real taste of Japan - magical.
The list goes on.
Nintendo, I owe you a beer. My childhood was plenty fun thanks to you.

Re: Best. Console. Ever
The Best console ever is NeoGeo.
-It was the Arcade at home affordable machine, not crappy conversion.
-Too much remember of hundred hours of play with friend/cousins.
-It was the console you own, and sheeps does not.
-1 or 2 game per year was far enough for maximum fun.
-It was on the market for almost 14 years!!
-it was rock solid, almost understoyable.
-There were no gay games,no "license game like",Electronics Crap annual fifa, NHL or other Nascar ****.
It was the Rolls Royce of consoles.

Re: Best. Console. Ever
It's a close call, but the Dreamcast is just too good to be knocked off my top spot by the SFC. The quality and quantity of Dreamcast games is just too damn much!
Not to mention the fact that it was bleeding edge, had Visual Memory, the first Online play and a great looker to boot! The fact that the 1st-party peripherals are pretty much unparalleled in build quality and usability by neither previous nor current consoles. (Ok, so the Saturn has the ultimate pad, but besides that...)

Re: Best. Console. Ever
If the Dreamcast had had a 6 button pad ala Saturn, it would have been the best console ever. Well, it is anyway

Re: Best. Console. Ever
Sega should just release a Saturn pad for the Dreamcast now. I think it would sell rather fantastically as a limited run item to all the DC fanatics worldwide!
(They would be guaranteed a fair few thousand, and its not like it would be expensive for them to make and develop)

I play almost everything digital on stick rather than pad! Those things are fantastic though, but I sold off my last one (for a pretty penny mind) with a Virtual On Saturn stick.

Re: Best. Console. Ever
The SNES holds best memories; first time i could play SF2, final fight and all SNK (Takara) titles at home and in that time the difference between arcade and console wasn't that huge in my eyes. It was great just to be able to play those games on your SNES!
I am happy though that i can play my cab nowadays, because i do realise now that conversions on the SNES (besides SF2T) suck. But i still love the SNES for serving me well in the past.......
What about the platformers, a BIG genre back then?
- Megaman X
- Castlevania
- Mario
- ghouls n ghosts
And so much more were just awesome!!

I voted DREAMCAST - because it is the sexiest console about!! apart from the controller, which is utter sh!te and prone to give you cramps!

Re: Best. Console. Ever
its not the best controaler but i dont know about the cramps thing. I think its the only controler ive used which has never given me cramps or pains or blisters. the worst one for that would be the nes pad, small and pointy. even the saturn pad has given me a blister before thoughSmokeyFingaz wrote:I voted DREAMCAST - because it is the sexiest console about!! apart from the controller, which is utter sh!te and prone to give you cramps!

Re: Best. Console. Ever
Only one I've ever experienced physical damage from was a SNES pad. Playing Super Punch-Out, and trying to get up after being knocked down. Managed to produce a 1" long blister on my thumb.
Still maintain that the most painful combination is Freekstyle and the GameCube pad. Agony to play.
