Cross-platform games on PS4 for me.
Watch their comparison video and let me know if you notice the PS4 version has over twice the pixel count, that enforces their "discernible difference in resolution........ which makes character models, weapons and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed".SuperPang wrote:IGN wrote:When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions of COD Ghosts side-by-side, there’s little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.
It’s certainly going to be a sticking point for those who demand the highest fidelity experience, but the difference is harder to identify in absence of a side-by-side comparison.
You're unlikely to get a decent comparison on an online compressed video. It's a bit of a moot point really.fagin wrote: Watch their comparison video and let me know if you notice the PS4 version has over twice the pixel count, that enforces their "discernible difference in resolution........ which makes character models, weapons and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed".
Placebo effect?
Hence my "compression" comment at the end of my last post, with regards to the video. Need to see this in action really to judge objectively.cRacKh0rN wrote:You're unlikely to get a decent comparison on an online compressed video. The Xbox scales and the PS4 doesn't because the PS4 is more capable. That's the main point of interest imo.
It could be because the hardware is quite obviously better. Time will tell.fagin wrote:Hence my "compression" comment at the end of my last post, with regards to the video. Other point you make.... I would suggest just because the PS4 doesn't need to scale COD to reach 1080p does not, "black and white", mean it is more capable. It could / may be, but that comparison does not mean that. It could be because the hardware is weaker on the XBO, it could be because the librarys are crap for the XBO, it could be because the XBO is different to code for - needs more time and wasn't allowed that time..... it could be for all manner of things.
My **** is bigger than your **** is what most tech nerds get a boner about. I've only got a small **** and I am a **** (before anyone else jumps in!) so who cares what I think!crunchywasp wrote:*sigh* bits, colours, mode 7, polygon count and gouraud shading were far more interesting console war subjects than screen resolution I reckon
Still not as dull as FLOPs mind

I've just remembered that a couple of years ago I saw him again (fifteen years later) when I took Nath to visit a telescope club observing event. I noted his astronomy website and funnily enough, he mockingly said "Oh you have an iPhone", before whipping out his Galaxy S2 and pointing it to the sky with that nightsky app and big OLED screen. ...and then another visitor said, "wow what phone is that?!".pubjoe wrote:My first Windows PC was a pentium 120 at age 16-17ish.
