My torch obsession continues as I love the quirky designs that come out that I miss in other gadgets.

Re: I received today...
Very nice, those Evergreen BVMs (the G, F and E series) are the best CRTs ever made IMO.
They have a huge range of adjustments, they're easy to calibrate (so much easier than trying to adjust a PVM-tier monitor), and don't suffer from any nonsense multiformat issues since they're 15KHz only.
I was playing Ibara on my BVM-20F1E earlier today, and it still blows my mind how good it looks.

I member it wasn't long ago you could pick these up for 50-100 euro. I passed on several thinking how ridiculous it was.
Now even basic consumer **** tv's 14 inch with a built in VHS go for 100-150 euro. Consumer CRT's are pretty much gone by now.

If you mean with "... wasn't long ago ..." like 10 years... you're not wrongaerobert wrote: March 3rd, 2025, 7:45 am I member it wasn't long ago you could pick these up for 50-100 euro. I passed on several thinking how ridiculous it was.

We keep hoovering up 20"-29" consumer CRTs for less than €50 regularly though. There are not gone. There's still plenty out there.

Re: I received today...
Yeah 10 years isn't that long ago in my book. That's like, 2005? :sadgruntingnoises:
Sure, there's CRT's around, but they're increasingly difficult to find. We have a pretty efficient recycling system in Sweden and most are just gone, replaced by boring flat screens.
I myself sent a huge 33" Sony Trinitron there in 2015-16 or something. Super rare TV. The only reason was its immense size (that almost killed me twice) and the fact I couldn't get rid of some purple magnetizing in one corner. I suspected the degauss didn't work, but the picture was immaculate. That was before I learned CRT repairs...
My picture of the label. Picture from the web. I probably have some pictures of it on older computer somewhere.

Re: I received today...
Wow that's a big trini!
I also really miss my 29 inch 4:3 Trinitron.
I passed it along to a friend about 15 years ago and replaced it with a 20 inch PVM. Then replaced that with a 14 Inch PVM. Replaced that with a 14 inch BVM. That was replaced with a 20 inch BVM, which has now been replaced with a PVM 14L4.
I think I'm done with the pro monitor thing now, will keep the 14L4 but am more interested in big consumer sets again. Would love to go full circle and back to a 29 inch Trinitron. I think they're perfect.

Re: I received today...
Not the worst idea! But I might get someone to look at them first. Mayyyyybe it's just a blown fuse (do they actually have that?). But taking these apart is a nightmare.

Yes, there's a fuse somewhere between incoming mains and chassi.

Re: I received today...
On the recommendation of @yosai I got this bloody brilliant heater for the shed does the job in mins even on a low setting:
Can be used over Wifi with a app too if that's your thing.

Re: I received today...
Is it with an outside module or just a wallheater? I tried a similar thing once but I thought it was too noisy.
