Incoming! :D

Art update: Spectre graciously passed on the art files for me to move ahead with. Thanks buddy!
You gave me a great start to get the ball rolling on this project.

Here's a preview of the colouring/shading first-pass work for the car:
Image
I've been working on getting the chrome looking just right, as well as the shininess of a nicely waxed Caddi. :)
Got the desert and dinos reflection colours in there, added some hard shading and am trying to get the blue similar to the game's Cadillac.
There's still some more work to be done to get this to a final state, but as a first-pass it's going in a good direction!

Having spoken to Fran about the style earlier on, he mentioned he really liked the poster and flyer works, so that's where I'll be taking most of my reference queues from.
Images like this: http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/flyers_ ... 002104.jpg" (too big to image tag)

As you can see, the colouring is quite sharp, with black shadows for great contrast, as well, notice there are seldom areas of soft-gradations of shade. Makes for a really crisp print comic-book style. But for the characters the concept art uses more hatching in the shading, but obviously that kind of fidelity doesn't come across for a sprite-based game. I'm not sure what I'll do about that yet, probably a hybrid between using hatching and not. Not sure yet, but I'll be carrying on with Hannah and Jack in the car, then moving onto the dinos, so I can figure that out next. Stay tuned! 8-) :thumbupright:

Well, I thought I had better get cracking too!

I stripped the shelves in the second cab of all the parts on the original shelves just like I did on the first one. The 21pin YL connectors and my square file arrived whilst I was doing that so I thought I would have a go at mounting one of them.

As I said in the other post I wanted to mount it in the rear power inlet panel and judging by this picture it looks like there is a lot of space where I could mount it:

Image

But, after removing the panel you can see that there is less room to mount one than you might think but it looked like there would still be room:

Image

I wanted to use the mounting plate inside the CP as a template for cutting out the hole but it was too big to offer up to the panel so I stuck it to some card and used a Stanley knife blade to copy the profile:

Image

I could then stick this to the panel and then transfer the profile using a Stanley knife blade again:

Then it was just a case of chain drilling it to remove the bulk of the material:

and then filing it to fit the connector:

and voilà! :awe:

Just the other cab to do now....

Beeps, yeah it's going to be used as a port so I can link the two cabs together and run them from one PCB for Vs or co-op play.

Thanks :awe:

Yeah just chain drill to remove the most of it and then file it. I used a 6" engineers second cut file to remove most of the material and a 4" 5/8"^2 file to finish the smaller cut outs.

Protip: If you're filing square corners you can use a file that has a smooth edge on one edge to avoid digging into the side that you don't wish to remove material from.
