It's nice to see. I've started keeping an itemised track of games spending, but I never want to get to the point where I own any games that I can't remember I have.

I always mean to track mine & have a couple of spreadsheets, but I always forgett to update them

I really want to keep track of spending, but last time when it hit (more than I care to divulge) I stopped counting. Time to sell me thinks.

I specifically don't record how much things cost. It's irrelevant, the money is all wasted anyway. You just waste as much as you can afford to balanced with other things you might want to waste it on.

I only buy new clothes about twice a year, maybe less, and I buy three of anything I like, and that's it, and half of it is from Tesco.

QFT. Replace Tesco with Asda/Burtons.

I do the same with shoes - I *cannot* be arsed looking for shoes, so i just wear converse - same for 60 years, so I justy choose a colour and ask for teh right size, job done.

Simples, buy more boards = buy less clothes, cheaper food, less films or 360 games, etc. At the end of the day it's still a bunch of cash you'd waste one way or another on various non essentials. So in the end, not worth recording what was spent on arcade stuff unless you're going to write everything else down too.

My information would be extremely difficult to keep in a database, due to the way I want it laid out and often change almost everything. But that's not important anway.

Basically it started as just a way to keep a track of what games needed what adapters, and which games had their adapters soldered directly on. Then I moved to New Zealand, and wanted to keep track on all that I had back home. As I was unemployed, I decided to enjoy myself with it. After five years in storage, I finally had all of the PCBs again in one place (i.e. Japan). I have a lot of free time in work, so that's where I usually update it. Sometimes I test myself - I try to remember the names of every games I own (127 as of today), I usually forget about five or six.

But yes indeed, it's sobering to look at the money being spent, £4936.13 this year alone... but I did sell some from the past for £1783.65 to make up a little of it. Need to sell more though, clearly.

I do record everything else, although not in detail. Groceries/clothing/etc. Arcade stuff was lumped in with Entertainment, but due to the amount I seem to be spending I'm breaking it down further.

What I mean is surely you're interested in the amount of money you're making fixing boards?

No not really, that's not why I'm doing it - although breaking even with enough to cover what I spent on the scope and solder station would be nice, doubt I'm there yet. I'm just doing it because it's interesting and my day job isn't anymore, and what I learn helps me keep my collection working in the future. Also a good way to pick up stuff cheap for the collection, like my essentially free Rastan - I definitely broke even on the stuff I got from Backflipper with a free Rastan in the mix.

As an example, I've been selling Golfing Greats boards for 12.50 on ebay - they go pretty quick too. I have one here which is probably only faulty due to the giant cracked mask rom, of course it may not be. It's cost me nearly as much as I'll sell it for just to get the replacement EPROM to suit, add my time in and the socket and it's an actual loss, but I just want to make it work again.

Always been like this, got told off in Beefeater once for repairing one of their lighting fixtures at our table. It was slightly broken and that bothered me.

That's pretty cool. For me at least, I'm happy to invest time with no end result other than satisfaction, but no chance I'll put money in to it.

Interesting idea, I've never thought of doing that. My obsession with boxes has the advantage that I can just look at my gaming shelf and see everything I own. I do keep directory listings on my pc though, everything I own in subdirectories by system, then I bung scans of flyers artwork etc that I can find on the web in there. Helps when I want to put an insert together.

I do also have a list on my personal website and also have a vaps listing, but both are horribly out of date.
