That same item appears to be £270 on ebay from the solderman!

Re: Rainbow Islands Repair Log
Blardy hell thats a ripoff!!!
£240 quid for the desoldering unit
£90 quid for the soldering unit
VAT @ 15%
--------------------------
£379.50
379.50 is AU$759 give or take - for that money you are very close to Hakko prices and they are very good bitsa kit. The Xytronics are very much low end hobbyist options.
I got the pair of them for $299 including the 10%GST (Aussie VAT).
British prices perhaps
am always surprised how much stuff costs in the UK whenever I go back compared to Oz, and Oz prices are sometimes not that hot compared to Asian prices.
I also suspect the "we are a specialist store" effect kicks in, they claim to be the cheapest in the UK, perhaps they are, but if you shop globally you can save an absolute ****. Even if you add 40quid postage from somewhere in Asia you will still end up with a bundle in your back pocket.
My VP280 USB EPROM reader / SRAM tester / TTL tester was AU$279 plus postage from the local "we are a specialist store and have the best prices", I bought mine for AU$180 delivered from Hong Kong, Wellon offer direct customer facing support anyway. The good thing about Asian vendors is they are always happy to ship anywhere.
I buy a lot of my stuff/spares from the US and or HongKong, firsly theres no GST and secondly even with postage it can work out cheaper than buying locally.

Re: Rainbow Islands Repair Log
I've been busy on eBay, so far this week have bought:
1 x RS TTL Logic Probe (used)
1 x Tektronics 465b Oscilloscope w/probes (used but serviced)
1 x iT Speedmaster GLV32 8 bank Eprommer (used)
1 x RS Eprom Eraser (ex-school science department!)
**** of old Eproms
1 x extra Multimeter with continuity beeper (New China job - £5!)
1 x knock-off of a Hakko 936 soldering station as recommended by someone on Aussie Arcade - thought it was about time I treated myself to a new one. £25 delivered from HK.
Already had an LCR meter, so just want a Logic Analyser and an ESR Meter and I'll be all set to follow your repair guidelines!
I have a couple of games which work fine but with a few graphical glitches so they should provide a good starting ground.
In the meantime, have pulled my old B&K Tube Rejuvanator apart and started replacing the parts which are clearly ****.
