No i can't hear anything when i put a credit , and i get the same thing when i go in the test switch ...

Damn **** 250€ :x I suppose that if i solder the new battery it won't change anything right ?

So you send it to channelManiac Kernow ? Don't you sold it on ebay or something ? ( remember of what i red in the other thread )

No other ideas ? And if i get that screen , does it mean that it is the battery that f*cked up the game , not my sh*tty voltage ?

I'd just leave it for now if I were you - send it to Channelmaniac if you're in the States, but if you're in the UK I can take a look at it for you.

It's up to you. If you'd rather send it to Channelmaniac then no problem. :)

i'm french , so it's probably the same cost , with the risk that the PCB is destroyed during the travel. I may wait for kernow's PCB coming back from channelmaniac ? ( i know he's really good to repare , i already talked to him once ) , and if can repair Kernow's one , i may send it to him if he's ok :)

Thanks vector for your proposition , do you ever repaired that kind of problem ? :)

I've repaired similar faults on similar boards, the problem is that the symptoms can even look the same on the same type of board yet have totally different causes. That's what makes board repair so much fun with loads of variety. :)

You could try re-seating the two labelled EPROMs, but make sure that you put them back in the socket the correct way around and don't bend any legs.

Also, you could try very, very gently flexing the board just in case you have a poor connection somewhere or a lifted leg on one of the surface mount chips.

Just be careful, that's all. :)

When you say " re-seating " , you mean unplug them and reput them in the good place ?

You need special tool to do this right ? Cause the last time i tried to unplug an eeeprom , i destroyed 2 legs , hopefully i remove it because it was dead but .. if it was a working one :silent:

If you're not sure then don't do it. You don't need a special tool, just a small, flat screwdriver and a little care and patience, gradually ease up each end a bit at a time.

But, don't do it if you have any doubts.

I hate those chip extractors. Horrible things - no control. Screwdriver is far better. :)

Could have been squashed or bashed?

Is it the same chip type and socket?

Hard to say without seeing it. :)

Okay. In that case best send it to Channelmaniac or myself - or wait and see how CM gets on with Kernow's board.

Good luck with the fix. If it's a success I'll put up a high score table. :awe:

I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a donor PGM motherboard from one of the :hoover:'s pretty cheaply if needed.

You have to modify the PCB to allow for the lower-voltage lithium battery, then you can install a lithium coin battery in place of the varta. The battery has to sit at an angle (or vertical), as there is not enough room for it to sit fully horizontal. Presto!
Care to point out what modifications were done to the PCB?

After a very close watch at the PCB , it " seem " that the Bios Eeeprom pins are not " exactly " at there initial place. I mean , when you watch the PCB very closely , it seem that the the first eeprom pins are well aligned , where the bios eeeprom seem to be ... not well aligned. I'll take a shot this afternoon.

You think that may be the problem , even if the PCB had no shock or else ?

Do someone who own a PCB could check if the pins of the two big eeeprom seems well aligned ?

By the way , one of the little eeeprom was not " pushed in the socket " , so i pressed on it , it " clics " , but still not working :(
