I've been using my MiSter quite a lot and really enjoying it. The ease of use, plug 'n' play setup and accuracy of some cores is great. I've been getting by with one extra button (F12/menu) to be able to adjust all settings without the need for a keyboard, or extra CP with several buttons in order to do specific tasks. There's a MiSTer remote that could help with extra stuff via a smart phone, but not got round to setting it up yet. The minimal UI is something I like too. Turn it on, choose game from list, play game.

:awe: I've got one of my MiSTer setups connected via an ipac so I can easily plug a spinner in. Played it a lot, really good fun. Thanks to Jotego for including the spinner controls.

+1. I'm ok with mapping buttons as I go, but my main gripe is the games that are released with a cocktail mode, but they don't bother incorporating player 2 controls. 1p is 1p and 2p is 1p :problem:
o1s1n wrote: March 28th, 2025, 12:52 pm Have you tried the MiSTer attract screen script?

I have that running on both of mine so they'll cycle through attract screens in loads of different cores when not in use. Looks absolutely fantastic.
I agree, the MiSTerSAM is great to leave running in the background

You can also create a menu shortcut with a combination of buttons on the control panel so you don't need an extra button to bring up the OSD.

On both of mine, if you hold down the player 2 start button and press right on the player 2 stick the OSD menu pops up on the screen. Can configure this in the main button config on the Mister menu.

There's also a mapping script you can download that sorts all of the specific game mapping for you too. (not sure if it solves that cocktail issue you mentioned though)

I recently installed a Tapto kit in one of my machines too for a bit of fun. Video of it working here (I really have to remember to hold my bloody camera phone in panorama so they don't upload as shorts!). So you can just hold up a NFC card to the control panel and it'll boot up a specific game.

It's a bit silly but is actually quite handy for when people are over, gets around the problem of trying to explain how the menu works to people who've never used it.

I've gone through the using a JAMMA Expander as 2 gamepads rather than a keyboard exercise, and converting all the Mistercade input mappings for it (the mapping script referred to, plus a bulk rename to match the USB identifiers)

It's a bit better in this mode though still core dependent. The mappings are no good for me though - coin and start mapped to L + R makes no sense.

Not a fan of how the SAM works, having it fire up stuff while you're in the main menu is no fun. And since I'm in tate, the assembling ROM bars look properly naff not rotated.

The updated DDP and Batrider cores are great though, been having fun with those.

Indeed, I've a similar tate Mister setup in the Pony beside it and the OSD isn't ideal in that configuration. You can play around with the fonts to get it more readable but it's not a great menu experience.

Still, I'll take it for DDP, Batrider and Battle Garegga!

I actually have a MiSTercade V2 on the way for that cabinet. Using the Antonio Villena Mister to jamma setup at the moment and it's cheap, chearful and works but requires external power and the audio makes a popping noise between games. Not nearly as seemless as I'd like it.

The OSD is workable, its the loading screens that look silly.

Achieves the ancient goal of a (good) small plug in JAMMA emulation setup well overall

DId they fix the slowdown on Batrider? Last time I tried it, it was a good bit slower than mame or the PCB.

Possibly. It felt right to me. Core was updated end of March

Finally messing around with my MiSTercade after buying it Christ knows how long ago!

Fantastic. I’m absolutely loving it.

I think I’m going to get one of the RetroPi PlayStation looking things to use for all the console based stuff, and I’ll keep the MiSTercade for JAMMA type stuff.

Been reliving PlayStation and SNES stuff on a CRT.

Why not get a superstation thingie for console stuff, especially if you like the playstation formfactor?

That was the thing I meant… I think?

Edit: it was

Edit 2: I can’t work out why they’re so cheap?! I paid £500 for the MiSTercade?!

It's the high prices that need explaining.

It cost me a little over £100 to get into the MiSTer in 2020. Just bought the DE10 before the price rise and used an old jpac type device that I had around. Still all you need.

I spent a while fiddling with things like GP2040 controls to remove input lag, and ways to make it look tidy. Still cheap but I ended up going for a Jamma Expander and a Mistercade just to cure my fiddling. They're great products but it's excessive expense and quality for a Jamma adapter on something I never actually see. But I suppose everything in this (tv and joystick on an elaborate stand) hobby is an excessive expense.

Thankfully the price of entry has come down considerably with the DE10 clones.

My first MiSTercade used a Terasic DE10 at the height of them being expensive and then the MiSTercade on top of that (with import fees from the US) .. definitely expensive business
(I then accidentally broke the USB port on the DE10 and had to buy another one, the less said about that the better!)

I brought it to my local phone repair shop and they fixed it - but unfortunately they didnt secure the port properly so when I tried to plug the bridge board back in again it just popped right back off  tore all the pads with it. At that point, I gave up on it and decided to just order a new one.

I sold the broken one to a mate and he managed to get the port reattached and working again. Currently resides in his Mister Multisystem console.

He basically bypassed where the USB pads were meant to be, exposed the traces above it and then used 0.5mm wire to get it connected up.

Couple of photos below. It's really tiny work, so do treat those USB power ports with care!

I read somewhere that as a workaround you could install a SNAC-enabled fork with modified cores so you could control "everything" through db15. You need another working mister to run the update_all, although there must be some other way to do it i guess.

I’m actually going to go for one of these…

https://shop.heber.co.uk/mister-multisy ... enclosure/

It’s by far the ugliest MiSTer system out there, by quite some margin too. It’s also not the cheapest option, but with the world being as knackered as it is I feel like I should make the effort to buy British.

For the extra £90 I’d rather have the genuine de10 and superior dac on the av pro 9.2, I don’t want to be a dick but that thing looks embarrassingly bad, I’d pay for the mistercase form factor in its own, the de 10 and superior dac are just a bonus….

Mister fpga uk is a British company and Nat the owner is British to.
