Besides if you've got a spare panel and some quick disconnects on a candy it is just an option you can swap in/out... It's not exclusive.

So... In a way... Why haven't you got a 1panel? Might be the other kind of approach to the question...

Because I'd probably never change it out and it would just be another thing needlessly taking up space in the house.

I don’t care if 2P or 1P panel. Only thing, when it is needed, is a VS setup. I prefer a 2P OG panel over a 1P repro.

For single player stuff I much prefer a 1P panel.

My Chewlix with my PS5, PS4 & PS3 in has a 1P panel, although I will get a 2P one made at some point.

My custom Chewlix has a 2P16B panel installed but I do have a 1P8B custom panel in case I fancy swapping out or linking the cabs.

Then my two Dino King conversions both have 1P6B panels as obviously a 2P panel on those babies is ergonomically and logistically just not a viable/comfortable option.

My next cab(after a green Mushi King) will hopefully be a Tecmo Urban and I don’t think they ever had an option of a 1P panel did they?

I get the idea of a vertical shmup game being more comfortable to play with a 1 player panel smack bang in the middle, but part of me still always sees arcade machines as something best enjoyed socially with a few people, so would always hope someone would come along and sit down as a player 2 and take off with their blue ship. (not that that happens very often!)
It's to sit centrally, for me. The chance of someone sitting next to me to play and of my shmups is essentially zero.

If I were more into fighting games etc then I would be more inclined to consider leaving a 2P.

Something to consider, I dunno if it's just me, but I've had some insane high score runs on the second player controls before (Astro City) in Progear in particular, still have not matched my top score on the first player controls. Since it's a hori game I think my eyes benefit being closer to where the screen scrolls in. I could see Deathsmiles working the same way, haven't played that on a cab in over 10 years though. Might not help in a vert setup but I don't flip my cab anymore and the dual panel looks more natural, lots of negative space on the single player ones, a Viewlix style cab looks particularly barren with only one set of controls.

I did think for a while I liked a 1p cp but have gone right off them.

Nice incorporation of the @emphatic instruction strip too!
I had mine altered very slightly to have the pink bars at the ends changed to a blue to match the Windy II.

What brand buttons are those? They look fantastic!
I have a stick with gold Samducksa buttons, and while they look amazing, and are fine for tapping and holding down, on Metal Slug which requires fire button mashing they get a bit ‘sticky’. I’m assuming simply friction and the metallic coating not being great with heat?

Love the aesthetic with this cab. Massive congrats!!

Still got my Vewlix original with 1P panel, like the look of it however would prefer to convert it to 2P panel at some point.

Mainly play beat em up's so 2P panels a lot better.

I like my 1P Cute panel. Makes life a little easier playing alone, and I prefer the minimalism of it.

I’ve had a thought, and it might be ridiculous so hear me out and if I’m an idiot please tell me…

I like my cabs to have 1p panels for the aesthetic, central screen position, and simple fact that 99.99% of the time they’re in use I’m the only person there.

I have 2p panels for my cabs, so if I were to have a small get together I’d of course put the 2p panels on.

However, what I’d really like is on the rare occasion I can have an impromptu multi player session I have the option to plug in an extra external controller.
What I’m thinking is on my MVS, some sort of JAMMA finger board pass through.
Then cut the male end off of a DB15 extension cable and solder relevant wires to their corresponding 2p control on the finger board.
Run the female end of the cable out the back of the cab and tuck it away.
Then, if I ever need a 2p option I could plug a DB15 controller in and off we go… right??

Edit: I’ve been googling… this appears to do that and a whole lot more, right??

https://paradisearcadeshop.com/products ... system-hjs

Edit 2: This definitely does it, and ridiculously I already have one somewhere…

I've often thought the same. It'd be good but I've never bothered doing it, mainly because it might be weird being umbilical boy.
