Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".
Just a little update guys to where i'm at with my Pony Mk-4.....

The Power supply was completely stripped & deep cleaned BIG time..it was absolutely caked in crap!!...Caps checked for leaks/bulging/damage etc.
Fuses removed checked and cleaned, crimps checked, wiring & earths etc..rebuilt, i was amazed how clean it came up!.
CRT Was mega filthy & got meticulously cleaned!!~

THE ANODE CAP seat white silicone sealer was damaged...cleaned & re-applied.
WE DON'T want any HT leaks!
Every part was removed & cleaned/polished & housing sheild re-sprayed.
Its now sat waiting for the rest to catch up!.

The Chassis was one of the worst i have seen, had to be carefully cleaned and major components checked...

The chassis still needs a little more time cleaning, but i'm happy to report a few faults were found & rectified!!..
If you can see the VR & HR sockets on the left of the bottom photo, hori had a dry joint..re-flowed .
Fault number 2...chassis fusing was iffy..poor contacts & needed a clean, also one fuse holder was loose..fixed.
Fault no-3..suspect capacitor replaced on neckboard..one leg had been knocked & pulled out!.
I measured the Yoke awhile back & zero'd in for a replacement chassis i may need....expecting the worst, found out i did not need it!..phew!

Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".
I was doing cartwheels & merry Jigs when i switched on the Pony for the first time!!..
No crackling..sparks etc, just a light 'click' of static and i was Greeted with this fine looking screen!!, my jaw hit the floor!...
She's come back to life!!...

It was a hot day too, highest in the year so far 25c..!!..
I'm over the moon with the Hitachi picture...not even fine tuned the picture yet..GMK-29FJ Goodness!.
Yeah, yeah..Hori Yoke wire wanting switching round, i did it the next day...but took no photo's, as i had the scratched screen to amend!!...that's being shown in the next Pony installment.
The screen has no burn in whatsoever!!...
So...£395 for this project not looking so bad after all !!.

That picture looks great already!!
There’s some real love and attention to detail going into this bad boy. Great fun to read so far.

Woah nice work!
Very interested to see how you do with the screen scratches. Got a scratched up tube inbound that I’m hoping can be polished up.

Cheers lads... Screen, 'deep scratch repair' coming up soon!.. Glad that bits over, took me hours of patience.. In my little spray booth on 23c+ hot days, my mix was drying up fast!!.

Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".
The Pony 4 may not be the most desirable cab out there but it's still a rarity (all candy cabs will be at some point) so this is great to see. Most people would've chucked the whole thing in a skip, frankly. Nice work.

Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".

Appreciate that Joe, many thanks.

We are all enthusiasts, and love the hobby.. Its up to us to look after what we have preserve them & enjoy it, keeping the spirit alive, so much change in the last ten years!. Most cabs are hard to find now.. Even common ones.
We need more people in this great pastime .. Its not about making money, and it's a shame a lot are into that. But It is indeed a passion, something we enjoy doing.. That's priceless.
New blood like 'ChrisBeans' with enthusiasm way off the scale is what our forum needs... I was surprised he found one of my old cabs of a decade ago!.. He did a cracking job on that and preserved another rare cab!.. Hats off to him...a stellar job.
It should be a criminal offence to neglect any arcade machine!.. Let's keep the Great Arcade Flag Flying!.

Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".
I'm actually in front of my project Pony, but work is now steady away & plastic repairs have to be methodical & done in stages...
So...this was the final work on the main heart of the Cab, rest now is all cosmetic...& final paint.
Note:...All missing metal parts could not be found 'there were a few!', so i had to copy them Exactly & make then out of correct gauge steal , things are never so simple are they!..
On with the carelessly scratched tube...it just added more time to the Project!.
Two photo's here are showing half hour or so of careful polishing with cerium oxide , but the scratch was reluctant..you can see how polishing took off the edges.
So annoying Bang centre of the screen where is was manipulated/pivoted on a soiled surface somewhere down south!?..FFS.
Just look at it!!!

Much more time is needed...glass is hard and a slow process tbh.
Lets get serious....scratches need to vanish!.

Re: Jaleco PONY ~MK IV~ "Revival".
1.So, your monitor is perfectly clean & all edges/dirt cleaned off with glass cleaner.
2.mask off the edges..and use some old towls to stop any surpluss water/CO getting in there..

3. Tape your old towls to the edges of the tape you put on the tube edge/black bar.
4. Get yourself some eye protection!..a pair of protective gloves & set up your powerdrill, battery cordless drills are no good for this.

Remember..Low & Slow!..No more than 200rpm's!...easy does it & be patient.
5...Mix up your Cerium oxide fine powder with a small teaspoon of water...your looking for a nice soft paste, like toothpaste..if you put in too much water add a little more powder, use the spoon to 'ladel' it onto your damp cutting/polishing head.

6. This glass polishing kit was only a tenner off ebay, you get four polishing heads & a selection of fine sanding discs, all graded. i did not use these as i was in no rush. plus a large bag of cerium oxide powder.
7.If when you start your mix is flying off..slow it down, polishing has to be uniform, don't press hard in one area, keep it flat parallel & sweep the whole screen every few minutes of concentrating in the 'bad' areas.

8. Also you will need a water spray bottle with a dash of washing up liquid in it...occasionally spray your polishing head as it will dry out & affect cutting!.
But don't have it dripping wet!....if water runs down your screen, then its too much..wipe it off before it runs to the bottom with your micro fibre cloth.
9.Check your work after half hour or so, wet & wring out a micro fibre cloth..wipe whole area & dry with paper towls..inspect your work, you will see the scratches slowly getting smaller & reducing...takes patience, but eventually, they will completely disappear like this!

I am very happy with the Tube now fellas...and the whole cabinet is now completely stripped again & the CRT is sat upstairs covered up & waiting for the rest to catch up!.

That’s an absolutely sterling job!!!!
This is such a great resurrection of a poorly treaded cab. Brilliant so far. Can’t wait to see how the next stages…
