FYI the speakers I use to produce SpeedCore retailed at over £2000 each, no joke. The clarity of the 8 bits is absolutely incredible. :awe:

Did we have a Hi-Fi thread? We need one if not.

My music room is very much multi purpose and is far from ideal (big, wooden floors, no soft furnishing, no ideal speaker position) and will no doubt be my biggest limitation in how good my HiFi can sound. I'm going to shift things around so I can get some floorstanding speakers, probably not rear ported. I bet those Thiel CS3.6 on HFWW sound amazing but I couldn't live with something that big.

Is there an idiots guide to this stuff? I need some light reading as I have no clue about the importance of ports (I can guess) or how to match power, drive, sensitivity.

The chario Sensitivity is 87 dB
splendor is 85 dB

Theres an ebay listing for a pair of Chario's at £995, so possibly £800-900 outside ebay? They have a bit of damage though. TBH I still think those MO platnum look a better buy?

Sexy, really nice with the stands.
That's a great price with stands. Still loving mine, just need something bigger. Might actually be selling them in a couple of months. Keeping an eye out for the Spendor A6R reviews. They're more than I'd like to spend though so might go for some regular A6 as they come down in price.

Probably. The SA1 just aren't physically big enough for the room. For a small-medium room, if you're not bass obsessed, they're amazing.

I'm not bass obsessed, but I could never refer to the room as small. It's not large, but I would say Small > Medium > mine > Large > massive

As an FYI, the plasticy, given a way free with the Experia Z, Sony MDR-1r headphones are actually really good.

I've compared them with my B&W P5s & AKG 550's and whilst they are not as accurate, they are more confortable, lighter & more forgicing than the other 2. The best part is, they can be had for £80-90 from ebay sealed!

I got mine for £87 shipped & use them every day. The biggest issue is the build, they are well put together, but they are plastic & pleather all over. They don't feel like a £300 headphone (the RPR) but they do sound great. I'm also not a precious with them due to the cost.

I was sorely tempted by those Thiels, in many ways perfect for the room but just too damn big and ugly and I'd probably have to send Martin to get them  Plus I think it's going to be more fun to work my way up to something of that calibre.

So many speakers are **** ugly. Doesn't help that it's an old mans hobby and everything's finished in cherry and walnut.

buy some speakers and place then on the floor and on some stands and let us know how you get on ...
Obviously I realise speakers sound better when they are elevated from the floor. What I don't understand is the how two different stands can have a "massively" different effect on the sound.
