Hey, that looks fannytastic! Some might say over-crowded, but in this case, in a good way.

And the preview at the bottom of the page... Is that pinmame??? (or vp) ...If it is, it's come a long way since I last saw it!!

I've been running gameex since setting up the cab purely because it was the first thing I tried that actually ran, and didn't require antiquated methods of setup. I had no problems with it except I didn't see any way of having favourites or changing genre outside of the defaults (most of which are useless to me). I've brought the pc from the cab in to do some heavy configuration (doing it on the cab monitor is difficult when the apply button doesn't fir onto the screen....) and installed maximus to try it and the configuration is so much better - I've just built a bunch of genre lists with only a couple of clicks :) It will also make life easier if I Tate the current machine as I can easily hide the horizontal games :)

I'm suprised no one has mentioned MALA.

I'm using it for the MAME boards since it supports vert and hori resolutions and is quite easy to use. It has the irritating habit of crashing on boot sometimes but other than that it's pretty solid. The retrogui theme is quite snappy too.

I'm currently looking for a frontend that can just run anything, not just emulators. As I have only one game per emulator and a couple of PC games, I just need something that will run any app/game/emu. I have no use for long sorted game lists. Anyone got ideas what I should try?

MAMEWah fror simplicity, or if you're feeling adventurous you could try AdvMENU.

I couldn't get MameWah to run, I got errors installing the system files and then it said I didn't have the system files. I might try later on an XP Pro setup though, running Vista on this box.

Yeah, sorry 'bout that, there are problems installing the required system files on Vista. I think there is a thread on MAMEWorld about it.

Yeap, here it is:

Certainly XP Pro will be a lot simpler install!

Well it'll eventually be installed on an XP Embedded, but I was just trying out frontends on my laptop, which runs Vista. So like I said, I'll just try it on an XP box and see how it works out for me. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I tried out the instructions in that thread, and MameWah changed my resolution to 640x480, changed my wallpaper to solid black, made my taskbar invisible, and then just sat there doing nothing (not even a window or anything). Then I killed it, and I manually had to change my resolution and wallpaper back, and had to reboot for my taskbar to reappear. Not a very nice experience, so I'll just try it on XP and see what that does.

So I tried MameWah on XP Pro, and it works.. Sort of. I followed the examples for setting it up for use with PC games, I plonked a bunch of .lnk shortcuts into a directory and pointed the ini to that, but it doesn't work. It loads everything fine, then the menu displays "No games available". Any ideas?

Edit: Disregard that, I suck ****... Apparently MameWAH wanted the links to be in a subdirectory of the directory I specified. Weird, but now it works.
