Yep, just to clarify that lifting pin 9 of a "G" PAL and jumping it to CN3 pin C13 will enable it to work on a revision 4 board or below. You'd likely get corrupt sound otherwise. This patch is not required for any other PAL, to my knowledge, and is of course not required on newer revision boards.
Lifting pin 7 of an "F" PAL and jumping it to CN3 pin C13 will make it function as a "G" PAL on any revision board. On revisions newer than 4 only, you can lift and jump pin 7 to pin 9. Pin 9 must still be in the socket.
You should also be able to lift pin 9 of an "G" PAL and jump it to pin 7 to make it work as an "F" PAL...
GALs have a propagation delay that has to be considered. Some are labeled as 10ns, 15, 20, 25, and higher. Make sure you have one that will work correctly and not cause timing glitches.

As far as I know, 10 and 15ns should be fine. 20 and 25 miiiiight cause some issues.
