they said it wasn't really meant to be an arcade game. they wanted to do something different and i think the result looks pretty damn good for being their first official attempt at doing something that isn't a shooting game.
i preordered the homecart, because i think that they seem to be improving with every release and super turrican was/is one of my favourite games on the snes, so i don't think i will be dissapointed.
to be perfectly honest, my stomach feels a bit weird after spending the money, but i really want them to continue their work on the neo and i sure as hell wouldn't have spent that kind of money on a game like bang bang busters. we'll see ...
At least they are trying something different for the Neo Geo MVS.

I haven't actually played it, but I thought Fast Striker looked pretty good. As for this Turrican rip-off, no thanks... I'll stick to the proper Amiga versions.

Pretty cool, I like the style but then I'm an Amiga fan. If it was a third of the price I'd be seriously tempted to buy it on MVS. As it is, I won't be picking up a dreamcast just to play this game.
They outsource some of the art, music etc.. Suposedly for their next release they are solely going to be doing programming and they are hiring "professional" pixel artists.
I gotta say that I'm not mad keen on the look of this. Something doesn't look quite right. The colour pallets seems strange, the main character looks rather clunky and some of the weapon effects really seem to jar. I kinda felt similarly with Last Hope, but loved Fast Striker. Odd.
Just can't pinpoint what seems wrong, but theres just something not quite 'wow' for me. Actually, watching it back again, it feels more SNES than Neo Geo.
The most annoying bit is...I reeeeeeeally want to love this.

Wanted: An Egret!!!!
I'm looking forward to this, i'm blind in some ways, i thought last hope 'looked' as in graphics rather nice, but when i bought it, was ugly enough when played.
we'll see, i'll be honest, watched trailer 1 when it came out and 2 last week, and thought it looked great, i'm sure i was the same with last hope tho.
EDIT - I'm not a graphics whore, i've even owned a ps2 and made it through okay. Couldnt play curse of darkness mind, 8 bit graphics in 3d don't cut it with me.
Even though I loved Turrican on the Amiga, I have to say that Gun Lord looks disappointing to me. The graphics seem wrong somehow (can't put my finger on it though, maybe it's the colors). It also looks too much like Turrican, so I think it's too much money for a Turrican clone.
+ 9 Big levels with lots to explore
+ Actually quite atmospheric
+ Nicely varied
+ Not as easy to get lost as you'd think
+ Some nice pixel art and backgrounds
- Mostly awful pixel art
- Some sprite tearing
- Long levels with no saving between
- Colours can be hard to distinguish from the background
- Annoying auto-centering "camera". Easy to jump into death too
- Purple laser weapon far more useful than the main ones
- Some control issues (over sensitive inputs, accidental rolls)
- Too easy
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive (tomorrow, hopefully) but the first impressions are slow to trickle in. I would've thought they put in a stage select code or passwords or something, knowing how long the game is and how they're probably not going to even try selling this to arcades.
...how long is it, anyway? SuperPang, have you an estimate to how long a full playthrough would take? I'm guessing there's going to be some variation depending on if you want to explore every nook 'n cranny or just speedrun through, but it'd be nice to have a ballpark estimation at least.
